Take away the junk from the Canes (everything except Faulk), take away the 2nd from the Wild, add Necas and a 2019 2nd from the Canes, and it is much closer (but the Canes would be very foolish to do this). I don't think you realize how good Dumba is and has the potential to be.
Allow our beat writer, Mr. Michael Russo, enlighten you:
"Since 2005-06, Dumba is one of 15 defensemen to record at least 50 points in a season before age 24 — along with Erik Karlsson, Mike Green, Dion Phaneuf, Drew Doughty, Ryan Whitney, John Klingberg, Seth Jones, Victor Hedman, Shea Weber, Tyson Barrie, Morgan Rielly, Alex Pietrangelo, Dougie Hamilton and Kris Letang.
Since 2005-06, Dumba is one of 14 defensemen to record at least two 10-plus goal seasons through their 23-year-old season – Green, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Weber, Karlsson, Jones, Hamilton, Phaneuf, Klingberg, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Tyler Myers, Aaron Ekblad and Zach Werenski.
And, most impressively, Dumba is one of six defensemen since 2005-06 to score three consecutive 10-goal seasons through their 23-year-old season — along with Doughty, Hamilton, Phaneuf, Aaron Ekblad and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (with Zach Werenski 2-for-2 and potentially a season from joining this elite list)."
If we're trading Dumba, we better be getting a future star player in return. His ceiling could be higher than PK Subban if he can continue to develop the way that he has.
My real question is this: why would the Canes trade for Dumba? They have Hamilton, Pesce, Faulk, and TVR on the right side. That's a ridiculous amount of depth. Hamilton and Pesce is a great right side for your top 4. The Wild would certainly want Necas in return for Dumba, and the Canes would be absolutely insane to trade him. I see the need for Zucker, but again the asking price would be very high (probably Teravainen or Aho).
