F it, Panarin and Nylander 1 for 1's

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 13, 2018
Published: Sep. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This isn't very realistic, this is just for fun. CBJ gets a comparable winger (though not quite as dynamic) with more term for a player who will likely leave after this season. I HIGHLY doubt Panarin would want to stay in Minnesota but maybe if he knows that Kaprizov is coming in 2 years he'll have a Russian buddy and he'd be more willing to stay. He'd also be playing with some good surrounding talent. The TOR trade is the only realistic way I see us acquiring Nylander. There might be some additional pieces but I've always felt this is a pretty fair trade.

I'd say it's pretty close in value... Dumba becomes our 1RHD, had 50 points last season. Nylander had 61 points and wants 8M... I'd do this trade as a Leafs fan in a heartbeat... Nylander isnt worth 8M.

I don’t hate the trades. Dumba would add some strength on our right side not sure if he is as defensively sound as a player we need. With nylander gone we may also need someone like coyle on the Matthews line. could see us adding brown to the trade and a pick to get coyle. Think the value on the trades are fair.

That was nylander’s asking Price. I think you will see him signed for 6yrs 6-7m

Maybe. I'm a tad surprised he hasn't signed yet in that range... wondering if Dubas just pulls the trigger and moves him.
    Hyman-Tavares-Marner
    Marleau-Matthews-Kapanen
    Johnsson-Kadri-Brown/Ennis
Is still a pretty good Top 9

But if Nylander is holding out for 8M and not taking a team discount then he can be traded with no qualms

I always have trouble with folks putting numbers on player...."he' a number one". Really? Gardiner had the most scoring points of any Leaf Dman but Babcock (for good reasons) doesn't play him on the PK. It's Hainsey, Reilly and Zaitsev with sometimes Hainsey playing almost all the time at LHD. So is Gardiner a number one?

You look at the Minni defence...some names that are recognized and are making big money. Suter, Brodin, Spurgeon and Dumba. Last year the Wild allowed four fewer goals that the Leafs. I think some Leafs fans just get so infatuated with RHD and scoring points and really don't look at the total value of the player.

I think spurgeon would be the better fit but you know me.... I like our prospects and I like our development program. I’m still hoping Ozhiganov/carrick and Borgman/Rosen can fill our bottom pair with some solid D. I think for the19/20 season Reilly, dermott, zaitsev and liljegren will hold the top 4 spots and give the leafs what they need. Good puck movement and bread and butter defence. If we get that from our D core things will look good.

As, a Leaf fan, I would love to see an improvement at the that final RHD spot, maybe even two RHD positions. It's the cost to acquire that I would concerned about right now. Maybe something can be done closer to TDL if needed as some teams are in sell mode. But as you suggest there is seems to hope in a cost efficient way if Dermot, Liljegren, Ohignaov, Borgman pan out by 2019/20....and maybe even in 2020/21...Sandin Durzi or Raseman might be added to the mix. At least the Leafs seem to have tradable pieces with their forwards if a trade for a Dman is needed.
