Detroit

Created by: Yojimbo
Team: 2018-19 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 4, 2018
Published: Sep. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Moving out cap hits. Carolina has the cap space but needs C/faceoff help. Pick can vary as necessary. Detroit basically moving Glendening for much needed cap space and token pick return. UFA signings just to fill in roster, more so than anything else.

The Wings would probably have to give up quite a bit more in order to dump both Z and Franzen's contracts. Sure, Carolina has the cap space to do this, but this only benefits them by acquiring Glendening. I have no doubt that Carolina would be able to acquire a comparable Center for that same 4th round pick while not taking on unnecessary salary.

While I understand what you are attempting here, it just doesn't make sense for Detroit to do this. Detroit can put Franzen and Zetterberg on LTIR and get cap relief. There is no incentive for Detroit to trade away these two contracts at the moment.

Moving out Zetterberg and Franzen does nothing if they can both be placed on LTIR.

I was under the impression that Zetterberg could not be put on LTIR, along the lines of Hossa.

For Carolina, it's a lot of cap for considerably less salary, potentially insured salary.

Indications are he will report and have a physical, if the doctor says he is unable to play because of his back then we would probably be placed on LTIR.

Even if for some reason he was not placed on LTIR they can fit in with a 22 man roster until someone got hurt.

No incentive for either Carolina or Detroit to make this trade. Detroit will get full cap relief on Franzen and about $4 million of Z's $6.083 million as well according to Wings beat writer Ansar Khan. So we don't need to make this move right now.
