If an Expansion Draft Happened Today...

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rules:

>Each team may protect either 7F, 3D, 1G or 8 Skaters, 1G.

>Players who are on LTIR, and players who have less than 3 pro seasons accrued (10 games in NHL and/or AHL in one season) are exempt.

>Expansion Team must pick at least 14F, 9D, 3G.

>Expansion Team must be between 60% and 100% of the Salary Cap.

>Players with NMC, NTC or M-NTC MUST be protected, and count towards the protected players list.

>Players with any of the above clauses with 1 year left on their deals will have their clause voided.

I also assumed that no players waived any of their clauses and no "draft considerations" trades were done, for fun. I probably could have built a better team, or made "better" protection lists, but whatever, this was just for fun.

If your rules are intentionally different from the leagues then I only have one problem: Mantha is Detroit's 2nd most important player behind Larkin (and maybe Zadina, we'll see). We'd move hell and high water to protect him. If your rules are meant to be the same as the real expansion draft Seattle will have, then NTC's and M-NTC's will not need to be protected.

How the hell have you been able to get Schenn from STL, Faksa, Mantha, Milano, Trouba, Skjei, Brodin, Klefblom and so on? How?

Leafs dodged a bullet. you took LEIVO?!? I know he is under used and decent 3rd line winger, but come on!
Protected: Matthews - Nylander - Marner - Kadri - Tavares - Marleau - Hyman.
Rielly, Gardiner, Dermott (if he is eligible).
Andersen
That leaves Johnsson, Kapanen, Brown, etc (because I'm told AHL counts towards not being protected or something).

Why on earth with STL leave a 70 point center unprotected?
They'd protect:
1. Schwartz
2. Tarasenko
3. Schenn
4. ROR
5. Fabbri
6. Perron
7. Bozak
8. Petro
9. Parayko
10. Edmundson

WPG : Wheeler, Scheifele, Ehlers, Little, Armia, Copp, Perreault or Tanev depending on if you want to get rid of Perreault's contract (Laine/Roslovic/Connor don't need to be protected since they don't have 3 NHL seasons under their belts). Byfuglien, Trouba, Morrissey. Hellebuyck. So that leaves Myers orPerreault or Tanev or Kulikov or Petan or Dano to be drafted.

NYR : Zibanejad, Hayes, Namestnikov, Zuccarrello, Spooner, Kreider, Vesey. Skjei, Shattenkirk, Staal (NMC). Lundqvist. That leaves Fast, DeAngelo, O'Gara To be drafted.

DET : Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou, Nyqvist, Nielsen (NMC), Bertuzzi, Frk. DeKeyser, Jensen, Green. Bernier.

Again, NTC & M-NTC don't need to be protected. It's injured players and NMC's that do.

Doubt all of Hayes/Namestnikov/Spooner are still on the team by the end of the season. Vesey/Zuccarello/Fast also in question. Assuming Fast is still there, he and DeAngelo would definitely be protected.

EDIT: Also, Buchnevich is definitely protected.

In this scenario, the expansion draft is right now, not at the end of the season.

Buchnevich doesn't need to be protected (only 2 pro seasons).

Read the description of each thread before commenting...it'll save you the embarassment you just felt.

At least my mistakes simply came from a lazy misunderstanding of the scenario's parameters. What excuse do you have for yours besides sheer ignorance?

Yep you're right! I assume Vesey, giving his age, must have played a season in the AHL before joining the Rangers. I also made a mistake as he's not eligible to be drafted. I'm not Perfect, that's for sure. I went with my memory while responding to this thread and did not checked to be sure. My bad!

But the "sheer ignorance" thing is a bit weird since I made extremely good points in the first reply. Sure I made a mistake, but that doesn't make me ignorant, does it?

If you're not ignorant, you're at least a hypocrite for trying to tell me off for doing something that you yourself did.

Hell, your original reply isn't even that "extremely good." It's just you listing 3 teams general protected list and messing up at least 1/3 of them.
