I don't know if trading the 3OA pick is in your best interest but, as a NYR fan, I think I'd accept this.

Best goal scorer, 3rd overall pick, and 2 seconds gone just for a 2nd line C and 2nd pairing D man, I really don't like this

Patience, they dont need to trade away their future and their captain / best goal scorer to try and patch up the roster. Try to be competitive next year but if it doesnyt work out make pacioretty a reasonable offer for an extension or trade him at the TDL for picks. Those draft picks you traded will go farther for the team than the return from NYR. Especially when you factor in all the cap space MTL can use to acquire free agents instead of paying Zibanjed and Skjei
