I like most of what you've done here. Buying out Weber and then using the cap space to sign... Cody Franson? I'd probably keep Weber, instead. If Juulsen takes his ice time, you can trade him for someone, anyone, whatever. Lucic? O'Reilly? Orpik... Someone's bound to take him on past performance, even coming off a year with a big injury.

It's funny you say that because I thought about trading for ROR but his cap figure is so high I wanted the extra room to see what I could do with it. Franson is just a place holder for a year because they're going to need space to re-sign skinner, Paul and Henrique. I thought about doing Weber straight up for ROR but Webers deal is much worse, I don't think the sabres would do that.

I think ROR, based on last season, looks more valuable right now. The Sabres have nine NHLish defensemen, but played through most of last year with only one healthy veteran, in Scandella. So if MTL has to chip in, say, a spare left wing to convince Buffalo that MTL makes more sense than other destinations for ROR (Buffalo could use a top six left wing, and MTL has like a dozen?) then I'm sure Buffalo could toss back a defenseman. Maybe even a former Canadiens defenseman who fell apart defensively last year?

You make some interesting points, the sabres are one of the few teams I hardly follow so I'll admit it was harder to find more ways to get ROR because of that. I'm sure they would've done it for the 2 2nds but I didn't want to liquidate the rest of the assets I had. Also as sad as it is I would have to probably get rid of bozak or plekanec and if I know the habs well they'll take plekanec back out of loyalty even though bozak is younger and better rn.
