I just don't see the Blues trading their captain. That doesn't very often. Actually, the only time I can think of is when the Leafs traded Phaneuf to the Sens. Besides, I'd think the Sens would want the younger, more controllable Colton Parayko.

Yeah most likely would get a better package with more young players from someone else.
Also St. Louis for Callahan... two captains lol

Sorry, I meant D-captains, since they are fewer of them around, but yes, quality example for sure. Still doesn't happen very often though. I like the idea of St. Louis changing things up, especially since they have so many good quality prospects that are ready for a shot at the NHL, which they could add to their lineup or trade.

I dunno. If Ottawa likes their chances of re-loading...would be hard to do better than drafting their lottery pick...adding the blues' mid-first rounder, adding a legit #1Dman in AP who has a bit of term on a good contract..and keep rolling forward with the current forward group.

It would be WPG's late first rounder but yes I agree.

Alright, I know I that there’s gonna be a huge cap issue when Petro and Schenn are up for contracts in two years, but I would so much rather trade Parayko than Pietrangelo. The perception across the league is that Parayko is a future Norris contender, but I just can’t see it. He hasn’t gotten better for about a year and there are parts of his game that piss me off. Pietrangelo is without a doubt one of the top 7 d-men in the league and he just has the ability to take over games. Sure it will be hard to pay both AP and EK, but that’s a problem for later. Also, if you want sweeping changes across the organization, you need to let go of Steen. He is old and he hasn’t won a damn thing in this league. If you realistically plan on paying EK and Jt than Stevens cap hit needs to go.

Weber for Subban comes to mind. Although i don't think Ottawa is going to need THAT much more than Petro for Karlsson. They're not getting a lame middle of the road defender. In fact, they're getting the better over all defenseman in the trade.

I think Parayko could. He needs some more guidance clearly, but playing with Bouwmeester much of the time doesn't help your cause when he is consistenly blowing coverage. He's also been playing with Dunn a lot as well who is very similar in terms of skill set, but much smaller. Maybe if they used Parayko in the right way on the power play, he'd show some growth. As much as Blues fans hated Hitch, he was a great teacher for defenseman. Yeo not so much.

Agreed on Parayko take, but also think if you are replacing Petro with Karlsson it would be an upgrade for the Blues, who have an awful PP and other solid D men other than Petro.
Sure an argument could be made that Petro is an all around better player, but with the team the Blues have and like I said horrible PP Karlsson makes them better.

Good value for karlsson but if the sens move him their looking to get younger and even though petriangelo is a great player he's only signed for 2 years after this one. if melnyk won't pay karlsson I doubt he pays petro.

I agree that they will most likely want a package of more young players. But I dont think not resigning Petro would be the issue.
The problem would be Karlsson wanting to leave not that Melnyk does not want to sign him.

Nah. the issue is melnyk doesn't want to pay him. the media is going to play it like he wanted to leave but the issue is the cheapsake won't open his wallet.
