Boston, Edmonton and free agents

Created by: GMTD
Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 6, 2018
Published: Mar. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Major reshuffle of players. I am sure the terms of my free agents are off a little and I welcome any comments regarding that.

This makes the Sabres really strong down the middle, IMO Bogo and Krug would be a very strong top pairing. The success of this team is dependent on the success of Justin & Nick at RW, a resurgence of Girgensons & Pouliot at LW.

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. McCabe, Jake
  2. Okposo, Kyle
Additional Details:
Krug is an young D-man with great scoring capabilities and is signed for the next 2 years. Boston could use a RW next year. With this trade Buffalo adds $1,350,000 of cap space.
2.
EDM
  1. Larsson, Johan
  2. Ristolainen, Rasmus
Additional Details:
The addition of Krug makes Ristolainen trade bait. Adding RNH gives the Sabres 3 solid centers and ROR can move to the 3rd spot and concentrate on defense and PK. Buffalo sheds an additional $875,000 of cap space.
3.
BUF
  1. 2019 5th round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Beaulieu, Nathan
Additional Details:
This is more of a salary shedding trade. Antipin, Nelson and Guhle all appear to be capable defense-men. Bogo has been hurt too much to evaluate his performance, but he was given top pairing salary by the jets and had many good seasons there before coming to Buffalo.

First and foremost I don't see Boston doing that deal. If they are going to trade Krug its going to be as part of a package for a bonefide #1 LHD

Second, you'll be mightily disappointed with Krug as a top pairing d-man. He has fantastic offensive ability, but he's average (at best) on the defensive side.

I'm not sure boston does that particular trade but I think it's fair value. If okposo regains his form he is a pretty good wing. I think the Bruins would be open to trading krug but I think it's to trade up for a better defenseman. They should target oel but who knows. Krug has plus offensive ability but he's small and weak in his own zone. He's a nice player though.

James Van Riemsdyke isn't signing no 3 year deal, Probably closer to 7 years $42 million for any team not named Toronto.

Thank you, I was lazy and just made every one 3 years. LOL
I think my salary per year is close and you are correct about the term, which also very fair.

Thank you very much. I guess he would be replacing a RD who is also weak in his own end. LOL.

Thank you very much, you are most likely correct and I am not disagreeing with you. I actually got the idea from a Boston post, Krug and Carlo for Niederreiter. I figured over the past years, Okposo has out performed Nido and if I added a D-man I would get push back for giving away too much for Krug. LOL

I figured we are more or less trading Okposo for RNH and Risto (great offensive very weak in his own end) for Krug. With those changes I felt the team was MUCH better. Then with the salary dumps we had cap for JVR. Upgrading at 3 positions was too much for me to pass up.

Thank you for your feedback. IMO you are correct, I see so many sabre GM make silly trades that heavily favor the home team, that I wanted to make trades that were tilted the other way. I guess I should have stated that I think I am overpaying on every trade, but I was looking at the end result. I get a young good center to replace Okposo, I get an offensive LHD in place of a RHD then with the cap space I added JVR. The other pieces I was sending McCabe, Larsson and Beaulieu were more or less spare parts (and helped with the cap) and could be moved. So maybe Buffalo gets some additions to even the trades. Maybe I am wrong but IMO this team is a big improvement over the current cast of characters. What do you think?

Thank you very much for the feed back.
So you think Oilers would have to add to that trade? Tell me what you think would make it fair.

The defense is definitely worse somehow. The wingers are still thin. but a little better than they are now. I think this team is still bottom feeding.

Adding in one of KY or Bear and a pick (2nd or 3rd). Tbh not really sure what chiarelli or botteril would do. Not the best trade partners as each team has bad contracts and a need for younger players.

That would be leveraging too much of the future I think for Buffalo. Now if GMTM was still in he would take that deal in a heartbeat.

Haha all good all in speculation and fun I wouldn't want to trade RNH for its for cap reason ya know just as both have superstar with big contracts we need to build and risto would be a huge add for our powerplay

Yes DATM would make that trade, he was great at throwing away assets and building a last place with no future out of a last place team with a great future.
