Ottawa fans are the worst!
Pittsburgh is capped out, this year and next. Can't afford Brassard, but I guess OTT could take back Cole for salary and retain a whole bunch...

Anyway the point here was to move both Brassard and JVR without touching 1st rounders, which are no fun to live without. Without retaining Brassard dollars or taking on a bad contract they will not get a 1st anyway.
Toronto can easily afford to up its offer on Brassard if they have to as well. Make it 2nd, 3rd, 5th, or even 2nd, 3rd, 4th without breaking a sweat.

But Ottawa fans think other teams don't know they are sellers, living in the cellar for the foreseeable future. Enjoy that, and the 10000 Leafs fans in your building for your 3 sellouts of the year.

I like your idea and see what you were trying to do. As a Pens fan I like the Pens deal, I even made a similar one in one of my threads. You could probably get more for JVR though. To be honest though i don't even know if Toronto will do anything with Bozak or JVR because they know they will help in their playoff push.

Of course! Reasonable deal to entice NYI to take the salary.
Can't retain it, need that 2019/20 room or else there's no point. Maybe 500k retained, after that Martin can't be given away for free you know?

I like what you did but retaining salary’s can come back and bite u in the ass especially when you have to resign Matthews, nylander, marner, Dermott. In this scenario would u plan on signing all the current leafs back( not just those four but also Carrick, Hyman, brown and those players)

Ps. Kapenen is better than Leivo so put him on the third line

Doesn't matter if the Leafs could get more, and they probably could, for both Bozak and JVR. They are flush with picks and prospects; and wingers, this balances the team out this year, and next year's impact is Brassard for Martin.
This is the Leafs trading up a bunch from Bozak, helping Pitt to get a C despite it's cap issues, and knowing that trading a valuable UFA wing like JVR can help this team's build. Cole is an experienced depth D, and the Leafs can use the experience part. Hopefully he knocks Polak to 8th D.

Don't worry John 3:16, those retained salaries are just for this year. Bozak and JVR are gone as of July 1st, and the other teams are up against the cap this year, or closer to it in Preds case.

Yes, this HELPS them re-sign everyone, with JVR not coming back, and especially Martin moved and none retained for 2019/20. Komarov and Polak are both done as Leafs, and Hainsey after 2018/19.
I have said before: Matthews 12M, Nylander 6.5M, Marner 6M, Gardiner 5.5M, Kapanen, Carrick, Borgman, Dermott, Johnsson, Leivo will all be cheap as RFAs.
They all fit under the cap without having to do anything with Marleau's 6.25M, which runs out after 2019/20.

P.S. I moved Kappy up, you were bang on there. If only Babcock put him in to replace Hyman!

You have a lot of players, who do send to the minors or have to waive?
Martin and is contract is easily moved July 2. Just 2.5m total. $$$$ in his last two years.

Haha, I just have a lot of guys up to show off that crazy depth. Aaltonen, Johnsson, Sparks, Pickard all stay in the minors. In the playoffs they can all sit in the press box.
If anyone goes down TML are set, and the future is crazy bright if those four are all waiting for a spot.

Liamthepro, I agree with what you said about kappy replacing hyman on the first line
I think he would be a better fit than hyman, he’s faster, very good in the the corners and the forecheck and I think that he has more potential then hyman as well so giving him this opportunity could really improve him in the long term.

Also there were rumours about leas getting Luke glendening, 5th in faceoffs for league and would be great 4c for leafs. Do you think they should get him, they could do Gauthier and a late pick for him. Glendening is definitely better in skill than Gauthier but if Detroit wants to rebuild a younger player and a pick would help. What do you think?

Heck yeah from the Leafs perspective, Glendening can be a great piece for the Leafs, a defensive and PK faceoff winner. (He is used for 66% D zone starts, and has a PK goal and assist this year.)
I commented on a trade for Glendening earlier, he is signed to a very reasonable 1.8M for the next three years.
All that said, He's worth more than Gaut and a late pick, as Gauthier is lost at NHL pace, and a late pick is small compensation for a long term roster player.
I would send Leivo, Gauthier, and a 3rd, but Wings may want to keep him to not lose worse during the rebuild...

Ya I agree with that but if we got Glendening what would you do with Moore, you could involve him in the trade and send him to Detroit but he isn’t worth much but if you don’t send him we would have a roster to big, if we have 7 d-men ( Polak and Carrick swapping out and in) and we already have Leivo and Martin scratched we don’t have space for Moore to also be scratched.

I had included Leivo in the trade for Glendening, so barring any more changes, you scratch Martin and Moore, and Carrick or Polak.
They may still trade Martin for a 6th or 7th pick too.

Spare, "Marlies" players won't be sitting in the press box. They will playing in the AHL playoffs. NHL playoff teams whose AHL clubs miss the playoffs, will have their practice squad of about 8 AHLers

Cole can't crack the Pens D...he won't help us either. I'm all for dumping Bozak, can't stand him, but that deal actually makes the team worse. At bare minimum, get some futures.

Have to get a 1st plus for JVR or a can't miss prospect and a 2nd.

Another misinformed, laughable comment there, the Goulet strikes again!
Cole has played 7 games in February. Averaging almost 18 minutes, he's got three points and is a plus 6. So he can crack the Pens lineup.
Bozak has played 7 games in Feb. Averaging 15 minutes at center, he's got two points and is plus 2. Both are expiring, and the Leafs do get futures, that is what the 5th and 7th are!

This team is better than presently assembled, though I hate to lose JVR's production, he is one of many quality wingers. The same can not be said for Brassard and Cole, who fit the Leafs current needs much better, and that is even though Cole is included mostly for salary and insurance purposes. Promote some wingers, play Winnik and Cole occasionally or in the playoff grind, and the team is far better off
