I don't think they want Versteeg &Boedker together...really I don't think they want Versteeg (for a 3rd stint) at all even though he fits the description of what they want. He's never been a critical factor in any cup run of theirs and every time Coach Q has turned him into a healthy scratch at some point during the playoff run. Versteeg expresses quite frustration that he isn't getting playing time. Is this time different? Maybe, but not if they also got Boedker. I also don't want to give up Rasmussen for Versteeg. Versteeg doesn't want to sign with the Hawks. He's not a bad player at all, but how many times can you break up with someone?

I agree with exo, no need to take Steeger back if they land Boedker. Also, with the way the D has played since moving Gusto to the 2nd pair, Polak might not even be necessary and they could go after a cheaper option. If the Hawks can dump Bickell AND get Boedker, I wouldn't mind keeping some of the additional cap space they could generate to use towards the bonuses Panarin will likely reach so as to not eat up next season's space (I could be wrong, but I believe they can use this year's leftover space before applying the rest to next season's)

You're right Bielby. Bonus money can either be paid in the season they are earned if cap room is available and if no space available deferred to the following season.
