As a Leafs fan think this is an under payment. Carrick is a 5-6 D at best most likely does not crack the Preds top 6, Rosen could be good but is unproven, and Leivo is a 4th liner. So basically giving a 1st and a conditional 2nd for a top 4 D with a great contract.

Gee, how many # 1Dmen does Nashville have? Jose, Subban and now Ekholm? Leafs would take that deal, but some Leafs fans seem to go crazy thinking this one magical # 1 (if there is such a thing) is going to such a difference maker.

The issue right now is on the back end. We still need "that guy" that can be that solid rock back there, like a Doughty, or Weber. Ekholm is the first person that comes to mind because he and Rielly would link up so well with each other and it would also allow the leafs with some to depth to finally break up that Zaitsev-Gardiner pair.... and bench Polak lol

Its a mix of both as I see it. Ekholm is exactly what the leafs need, and scoring is what the Preds need. Now their most likely not going to make this trade as they are hot right now, but Josh Leivo has proven he can score at the NHL level. Carrick contract is that much cheaper as well, and he could for sure fit in the preds offensive back line. Maybe a Kapenen to sweeten the deal? Rosen was supposed to be the sweetener due to the preds godly ability of turning young D-men into superstars

Not even close to scraps lol. Leivo is a proven NHL scorer which is what Nashville needs, and will slot in nicely on any line. Carrick is a great offensive young d-man, who will flourish with Subban as his partner. Rosen was thrown in to sweeten the deal, along with picks. Nashville might also ask one of JVR or Komorov as well tho.

Leivo is not a proven scorer. If he was, he would be in the lineup every day and on the first 2 lines. Carrick has some potential to be a good and reliable 5/6 defensemen. That's it. Let's not say he's worth more than he is. Rosen is in the minors because his skating and 1st pass isn't up to the NHL standards yet.

I posted this exact trade yesterday, however I gave up Marner. Marner's future potential for a consistent 2/3 defensemen who is signed at reasonable contract through 2021/22.

If leafs want a number 1 d man, they should trade Marner for Hanifin. Works out for both teams, and avoid cap constraints. This Ekholm trade proposal is just ridiculous

If you look at Leivo's stats, he is, infact a proven scorer. The only reason why hes not in the line-up every night, is because there is no room for him on the Leafs. The picks soften the deal more, given how well Nashville drafts, and that they lost theirs during the Duchane-Turris 3 way sega. Carrick will always be part of any deal if they do decide to pull the trigger on a defence men, he still is young and loads of potential. Marner wouldnt fit into the regime they have atm, as they are looking for depth for bodies, vs skill. Leafs might have to go get somebody else and flip them to this deal, to soften it

The Ekholm trade is close, but is missing that 2nd piece. I've realized they might wanna go get an Ian Cole and flip him to this deal. But Marner for Hanifin doesnt work out. You need a proven #1 defenceman. He isnt there yet, meanwhile, Marner is proven to score at NHL level. Its lopesided towards Carolina

Sergachev had not proven anything in the nhl, yet he costs a player even better then marner, in Drouin. Hanafin is a good dman and his price will be high.

if he was so proven as a scorer, he would be in the line up. simple as that. idk how ur saying marner wont fit in. nashville plays a fast skating game, and marner is fast skater. carrick is nothing more then a 5-6 d.
