There you go! You've got it now! It took 3 tries but you've got...it...

...Oh, wait...

Anaheim goes over the cap, lose Gardiner because they can't afford to re-sign him, lose Silfverberg because they can't afford to sign him, end up having to use picks or prospects to dump another salary BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP THEM. All to get an (very good) overpaid winger.

Willy Nylander is very good. There's no denying it. But he's not Taylor Hall. He's not in that upper echelon of wingers (the Kane's, Laine's, Panerin's), that are franchise players and are worth the best defenseman on a team. Similar to your Jones and Parayko moves. Does the value even out somewhat? Somewhat, but it doesn't make sense for Columbus to move Jones for a year of Gardiner and for the opportunity to overpay Nylander. Nor does it make sense for STL to move a great contract/player in Parayko for the same value.

I'm sorry to all Leaf fans out there that are looking for a steal of a deal, but it just doesn't work out. You're going to have to go out and overpay big time for a team to move someone like these guys.

i agree, and i am a leafs fan, he has not proven that he belongs in the same category as those wingers, and that is why we havent signed him for the 8 mill he wants...he just isnt worth that for putting up 60 points. and not a lot of teams are going to want gardiner, unless it is at the deadline and it will give them that extra push (but doubtful imo) and the fact that columbus still has to re-sign bob and bread-man is difficult alone, i dont think they would seek out another player wanting to get paid. im sure there is a trade out there that might work but the columbus one imo would be turned down immediately, as for the anaheim trade, i dont think toronto is going to look for a LHD i think if they are trading to get a D-man they would be targeting a right hand man, but maybe they wait until free agency, let gardiner walk and try and scoop tyler meyers if he makes it to FA...

According to advance stats, Nylander is a top 10 right winger in the entire league, so he is absolutely in the upper echelon of wingers. That being said you are right this trade doesn't work.

Zero chance ANA would do that deal. Only dman I could see them making available would be Montour.
