Description
It is easy to say that Steve Yzerman is one of the greatest general managers in NHL history. If Ken Holland only stepped aside when he was told to, the empire could still have survived. This is how I believe they would look now, though some things such as drafting Vasilevskiy and signing Anton Stralman instead of over paying Jonathan Ericsson is sort of a no brainier. Although the team is over the cap hit, most likely the salary would meet with the cap.

Detroit drafted Sheahan in 2010 but it could be speculated that Steve Yzerman would have picked Kuznetsov if he was with the Red Wings.

except just a single move sends a ripple effect through the entire NHL. Every season, game, shift would have a different outcome. Draft orders would change and who knows how that affects who gets drafted and where.

I think Yzerman is over rated and calling him one of the greatest GM in NHL history is a stretch. Yes he has built a great team in the Cap era , but he has the advantage of a no tax state gives him a great advantage on contracts and it is not like they are making Stanley Cup finals appearances every year.

Yzerman is good, but lets pump the brakes on "one of the greatest ever".
Yes he has hit some home runs with the draft aka Kucherov, Vaslaesky. but lets remember he inherent Stamkos(still a top 10 scorer in the league) and Hedman(one of the best Dman in the league).
