I can't imagine either trade is anywhere close to landing those players.

Leivo..couldn't crack the roster...Nielsen isn't on the radar as being on the NHL roster anytime soon...Grundstrom might make the team as a 4th line winger...and a 4th....

these do not combine to get a 24 yr old top pairing RHD man signed to a good contract.

I'll give you stars for the effort and good looking lineup tho.

where on earth is 8 million for Thornton coming from? Even for one year it makes no sense.

Unless you plan on getting rid of Jake Gardiner, why would you trade for Haydn Fleury? He is blocking Travis Dermott, who will most definitely be a starter at the start of the 2018-19 season. As well, If you are planning to sign Riley Nash, that would be 3 very capable centres without the need to sign old and injury-prone Thornton who is coming back from a major knee injury. This team plays a speed game, and Thornton does not fit. While I like the idea of bringing in Jeff Skinner (with an extension in hand), I don't see the Leafs trading their 2018 1st rounder. Any deal that would include sending back a futures type package, I am guessing would be a future and protected 1st round draft pick. Considering the deep 2019 draft pool, it wouldn't surprise me to see them hold onto their 2019 1st and be more willing to let go of their 2020. The caveat, of course, is dealing a 1st as part of a package for a legitimate top pairing defenseman. Speaking of which, no way that deal for Hamilton gets done. I'd say as a starting point, it would probably require a 1st rounder, Kapanen or Brown and a top prospect like Bracco. To me, I am not sure it's worth it, but that would likely be the cost.

Leaf Nation is a fish bowl full of piranhas.. always attacking.

The "report" on Skinner is a 1st and a prospect. Our 1st is late, if they want it then who do they want? Bracco or Grunstrom? Sounds great as long as there is a reasonable extension included.

Now Dougie is a different ball of wax. What does Calgary need or want? Apparently it's scoring up front. Leivo is more valuable to us than any other team so it is doubtful they sell low on him. Are other teams dumb enough to covet Brown? Maybe. But they're built to win now.so futures don't make much sense. Kadri makes some sense. Kapanen maybe but a package like Kadri and Brown for Dougie might get the ball rolling.

This asks the bigger question. Why did Boston and Calgary lose with Dougie? Is he really the guy we want?
