Description

If the Senators are out of the playoff race next year and Matt Duchene isn't signed to an extension, I'd be pretty worried he would leave in FA. Losing him for nothing after all you have up for him would be a total failure. The whole reason he wanted out of COL is because he wanted to win. So trading him at the deadline would possibly be the only way to recoup some assets. Don't expect to get the same kind of return the Sens gave up for him last year, he'll be a UFA and will likely cost close to 7M per year on a 5-7 year deal. If the Sens wanted to maximize the return for a potential Karlson trade, they could throw Duchene in there.

U can’t get Carolina’s 2018 pick if u trade Duchene at the deadline
The 2018 draft is before the season starts

And if u mean to trade him this offseason, BEFORE the draft, these absolutely zero chance u get #2 overall AND Faulk
There’s just no way

U might be able to sucker Montreal for #3 overall
Idk if u guys would actually trade with each other,
but their GM has gotta be desperate to try n save his job
Or maybe some kind of deal with Edmonton or Vancouver for the same reasons
Problem is,
u guys have a GM who’s gotta be on the hot seat as well

You’re in a tough spot
Best chance is probably to start selling off assets,
and start a total rebuild
