Description

If the leafs manage to sign Tavares -- do you end up trading Kadri for a good RD around the same value? Not saying it necessarily has to be Manson, it is just an example -- but i think this trade would be fair.

In order to manage the cap with Marner and Matthews' new contracts coming into play in 2019, I would trade Gardiner at the 2019 trade deadline or even let him walk once he becomes a UFA. Let Dermott gain some experience first before stepping into the 2 LD position after Gardiners eventual leave.

Riley Nash will cost more than that on the open market. I just don’t see how the leafs can sign Tavares and make the cap work the following year. Matthews/marner will account for roughly 17M per year together most likely, plus Kapanen will be due a raise on his 800k with only gardiner’s 4M off the books

The value is there, but now the need isn’t for Anaheim. In the last year Anaheim traded Vatanen for Henrique (to fill what role Kadri would have been used in), lost Theodore to Vegas, and Despres was bought out. This would leave Anaheim thin on RHD. Anaheim already has Getzlaf/Kesler/Henrique down the middle and Steel could be ready soon.
