Description

Hear me out. The leafs trade away Bozak and JVR and stock up on picks and prospects which they can then use to flip to Ottawa for Karlsson & Bobby Ryan (at retained salary). They also pick up Brassard to replace Bozak. Josh Leivo gets called up to replace JVR.

Within the next season or two, the leafs use their wizardry to get rid of Bobby Ryan (as they have an excellent history of getting rid of horrible contracts)

Komarov walks at the end of the season, leaving cap space for Nylander. Jake Gardiner has a tradeable contract and Patrick Marleau will eventually hit free agency.

This is possible to fit all of Karlsson and Matthews plus one of Nylander or Marner under the cap.

Kyrou the only decent piece in the whole Karlsson deal, The rest is trash and Ottawa easily declines.
