Why wouldn’t leafs (or any team) avoid trading for Kane - a wildcard at best, cancer at worst - & just sign debrusk like you have 🤨?
Vast majority of those UfAs aren’t signing those low ball offers

kane is a solid 40 point player big body who plays physical. would def be a solid player if a team missed out on a few of the top end UFA guys they wanted. hes overpaid by a m or 2 but if a team only had to pay a 3rd or 4th and could pay another team (like sjs or chic) a 3rdish to take 1-2m then i dont see why someone wouldnt take that chance. hes never really been a "cancer" expect that 1 thing on sjs. in buffalo everyone wanted out during his years look at the people around him and what theyve done sense leaving. he wasnt a problem in his early years so dont see why someone wouldnt want to add that.

Also rumor around debrusk (that ive seen) is hes trying to force his way out of boston to come closer to home in Alberta. if thats true then he has the power to just shrug off other teams and make someone feel like theyve missed out on him. he would either get a massive overpay and we would just keep kane/trade him and sign a cheaper player or he would force his way here/back to boston

The UFAs i mostly disagree with u. Debrusk is going to get about6m, all the oilers players are about market (maybe slightly below to stay on a contender) and guys like Tyler J, Shattenkirk, miller arent going to get paid much and should take slightly less then there already small short term deals they would get to be on a contender. miller i dont see getting much more then 2.5 and if he plays well on a short term deal on a winning team then it could allow him to go bag chase (esp if we win the cup). Samy i just have no clue were anyone would value him. decent starter whos great when hes on but very streaky and too high of a risk to be a big game starter. Driedger just doesnt have the games to get a big contract 67 all time, 29 on the kraken were he played very bad 2 years ago and only 2 games last year. if he were able to be an everyday backup and play 30-40 games like the oilers would want then it could easily raise his price so a 1-2 year deal makes sense. nobody is giving him more its just not worth far to many awful goalie contracts over the past 5 years in FA to overpay a 30 yearold career 3rd stringer.
