Description
$9 million doesn't have to be for Tavares, rather it is the amount that the Leafs could spend on a UFA C or RHD and make the cap hit work.

laugh laugh Try more like 7 years $84 million at the very least for Tavares, A bidding war will take him far over $9 million.

Stop with the nonsense of LTIRer Marleau just to fit players in under the cap. And you haven't included the carryover of 2018/19 bonuses, since you didn't include them in your previous post. It's just not that easy.

While LTIR may not be an option, I think trading away Marleau could be more likely. I know he has a NMC, but if you look at how the contract is structured, it looks like the Leafs may be planning on convincing him to waive it on July 2, 2019 (after the signing bonus is paid on July 1). At that point, the team trading for him would only have $1.25 million left to pay (with a $6.25 million cap hit).

If Marleau still wants to play in his third year, I don't know why he would leave the Leafs as they might be a contending team. And San Jose just might not be interested in his 6.25m cap hit, despite his low salary. If he's going to to retire his 6.25m cap hit could be traded.
