Description
Just an opening night roster!
EDM needs to fast track the development of the current prospects that aren't waiver exempt.
Throw them in the deep end and see who swims! Hopefully there's some swimmers. EDM needs the cheap contracts to help out in these next few years!

McLeod isn't an effective 3C. I have a hard time believing next year will be any different.
Lavoie needs an opportunity to score. RNH & Kane should be acceptable linemates to shelter him.
Hoping Brown likes EDM & signs for cheap to make up for such a horrible season.
Nurse needs to be playing the top line mins with that payday.
Ekholm can play RD & mentor his fellow countryman Broberg.
Rodrigue is trending to be a solid candidate to back up Skinner.
Bury Campbell for another year in hopes that someone is desperate enough to claim him.
Bertuzzi is a long shot but if he wants a great top 6 opportunity on a team that will hopefully contend again then I think a 1 yr deal could work.

AGAIN... this is an opening night roster, not a Stanley Cup contending lineup!!!

Personally, I’m not sold on Bertuzzi, nor putting Ekholm on his offside. Buying out Campbell, and trading Kulak, and Ceci should be a priority, in order to upgrade the offence, and defence. If this is our team coming next season, we are in a world of hurt imo.

In the description I explained the purpose. They need to give an honest effort into their cheap prospects. I'm not saying it needs to be the team at the deadline.
I see Bertuzzi as adding another grinding forward to stretch the depth to 3 solid lines. I personally like duos(McDavid/Hyman, Drai/Bertuzzi, RNH/Kane) and attempt to find the cheaper prospects some chemistry on each line.
Ekholm is capable and this idea is about improving Broberg like he has with Bouchard. Then they can keep Kulak who's been great for the $.

I understand your thinkhing, however, the first line of RNH-97-Hyman is elite and the top pairing of Eki-Bouch is one of the best in the NHL. You don't just give that up.
I am with you on Ceci not being a pure cap dump. Seeing the alternatives and their potential AAv, I am reaching the point of thinking that keeping Ceci is a valid option. Same goes for Kulak.
I don't think that Lavoie will pay out and instead of Rodrigue I'd prefer a veteran backup goalie. Pickard-Skinner seem to work just fine.
McLeod should be turned into an two-way winger, I am with you on that. Who knows maybe Holloway can take a swing at being 3rd line C. But currently he is a good, fast winger.
That's also why I don't like Bert too much, because Kane should bring what Bertuzzi brings and the Oil is missing a definitive 3LC.

I would definitely be going back to RNH-MCDAVID-HYMAN post TDL. This is opening night... they need to see what these prospects have b4 letting them hit the waiver wire, especially Rodrigue. He's been developing on a very similar level as Skinner. Hoping EDM wins a cup I assume Skinner would be leaned on as the veteran and no doubt #1, I believe that would make Rodrigue worth exploring. There are teams out there who would be willing to take a shot on him and claim.
I agree that Lavoie doesn't look promising yet but again worth testing the waters on an opening night roster with veteran players. Again, this is about creating opportunities for prospects to showcase whether or not they belong. If they struggle then waive them, trade them, etc. Best case they excel and the Oilers end up with bargain contracts they need for 29/97/2 extensions.
