Description
Buffalo has JE, ROR, and Okposo locked up (JE shortly) to set the blueprint for a murderous top 6. With Nylander, Baptiste, and Mittelstadt, BUF has a short wait to round out what will be an elite core.

Meanwhile, Sam Reinhart has had growing pains as far as I can tell (googling his name brings up a few negative stories). Once BUF's wing's prospects fully develop, Sam will not be needed as a winger. That being said, Sam Reinhart is not a prototypical 3C.

STL needs top 6 center depth. We have 3C depth and tremendous defensive prospects who are developing the right way.

Thus this prediction:

It's not bad, but STL still needs to add.

I don't like trades where the greedy party (in this case, me) just gives you 5 nickles for a quarter. You know where I just pick the things I don't like about my team and offer them to you for something I want. I try to avoid that.

From STL's point of view Sam is due a hefty raise next season (on final ELC season) and isn't playing top 6 C right now. Depending on continued improvement he could shoot from 3 mil AAV up to as much as 5 mil AAV. STL can absorb this cost due to Paul Stastny leaving next season.

But the two pieces offered:

Barbashev (a 2-way C) spent some playoff time as the teams 1C and has 1 more year of sub 1mil AAV. No fan glasses on, seriously, he is a legit 3C.

Walman has his full 3 year ELC for any receiving team and arguably a solid farm systems top prospect at this time.

So while I do respect that Buf would want more (and could maybe get more! grin), I feel any further add would be a net loss for STL, thus preventing a win-win trade.

I think STL would have to respectfully pass from an additional add at this time.

Its not really what we are looking for. The most reasonable reinhart trade that ive seen suggested was reinhart for hanifin. Thats what i would want for him. A similarly aged player with the same pedigree and development, just at a position that fits our needs better. Nothing else would make me want to move him.

Reinhart plays RW for a reason in buffalo because he is good there. If anything Fabbri would get that spot and Reinhart move to the RW. Would be a dynamite line and give ST.Louis 3 legit scoring threats lines. So for example
Schwartz-Statsny-Tarensenko
Stern-Fabbri-Reinhart
Sobotka-Sundqvist-Schenn
Pararjvi-Brodziak-Bennett
(Personally would have Schenn top line imo)
But agreed St.Louis would have to offer a 1st or 2 2nds for that deal to go through. But I like it.

And Buffalo passes without an additional add from STL. It's a two way street and I respect your reasoning.
