Monahan would have to be a point per game to fetch that return

I know you mean wideman and Ylonen can go anywhere. First of all, WAY too much for the pair of them, second, Carolina... really? Even if the Canes didn't have 10878 defensemen (this number may be a little exaggerated) there was the whole Aho - Kotkaniemi thing

Are you that unaware of past deadline trades for inferior players?

Bertuzzi for a 1st
Granlund for a 2nd
Jeannot for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd +

If Monahan puts up around 0.6pts per game, and play over 40 games, hes getting a 1st rounder minimum

SEA declines. I think Kidney has the potential to be a great player, but so to does Nyman. Between Berniers, Wright, and Goyette, SEA likely has center taken care of for a while, and if Kidney was to move to a wing, it would be LW, and SEA has LW more than taken care of especially after drafting Sale (Tolvanen, Sale, Kartye, and Nyman) and while Kidney would be a good addition, I can't see SEA making a luxury trade for a player they don't really need and throwing in a 1st for Monahan. Even if Monahan produces well this season, there is always the possibility that it is just a flash in the pan and SEA would have to consider his injury history even if he stays healthy.

It is a lot to give up for a prospect who would be a luxury for SEA and player who is a big question mark.
