Description
I tried this like a few hours ago but I'm bored and already read the comments to see what I got wrong. If you want more detail, it's titled the same name, just without the word retry of course.

To summarize: The opening day roster will look different from this one, but by deadline I hope to see this, Wennberg is replaced by Wright, and Evans takes over for Gus. I'm not explaining the UFA/RFA signings again, just trust I have a reason for them.

P.S. I edited the team after posting because I forgot to retain on the traded contracts

Trades

  1. 2024 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Someone made the comparison to the Gostisbehere trade when I tried this before and I'd agree for the most part, Ghost is probably a bit better and as a result should fetch the same if not more than Schultz, but the only reason I slightly disagree is because Schultz is going to be on a contract that is a 3rd of the cap hit for a guy who is not much worse. I can see a bit of draft capital returning being enough to push the 3rd to a 2nd.
NYI
  1. Schultz, Justin ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. 2024 6th round pick (SEA)
  3. 2025 7th round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
Second pairing caliber offensive D who can support pp2, only costs 1.5 mil. Adding him to the bottom pair over a guy like Mayfield could spark extra offence for a team who struggles with that. I wish I could squeeze a 1st out of this, but as mentioned under the receiving side, the ghost trade proves that wont happen.

    Considerations, Future

Kid's got a bright future, having the size and talent to potentially push this team past the hump. In all seriousness, I originally tried to get Salomonsson in this trade too but Schwartz, Driedger, and a 1st was understandably not enough to land him, so in exchange for not receiving anyone in return I scaled the pick back. Winnipeg just doesn't really have the most fleshed out prospect pool to pick from, and I understand if fans are touchy to the idea of moving a right handed defenseman with the ceiling as high as Salomonsson.
    WPG
    1. Driedger, Chris ($1,750,000 retained)
    2. Schwartz, Jaden
    3. 2024 3rd round pick (TOR)
    Additional Details:
Winnipeg seems to be in the position where a retool is the most likely step forward, and this trade takes advantage of them doing so to try and move players who don't fit the direction of the team. Schwartz could help their second line out, especially if he can stay healthy, and Dreidger at 1.75 mil to backup Hellebuyck is pretty cheap for what he's shown he can do in the backup role. The third is a throw in because 1. If all the effort to retool fails, they still have something to show for it, and 2. Despite Winnipeg retooling and this helping them do that, it's still kind of a glorified cap dump. Willing to move up to a 2023 2rd if this gets done before the draft, or a 2024 3rd+ 5th if it's done after the draft.
    3.
    SEA
    1. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
    2. 2024 6th round pick (STL)
    Additional Details:
Deadline move - Not necessarily the Blues, just whatever team is in need of a middle 6 two-way center for the playoffs.
    STL
    1. Wennberg, Alexander ($2,250,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
Deadline move - Opening up 2C for a (hopefully) ready Shane Wright.

Both players going to the jets have trade protection so in no way would they waive for a competitive jets team let alone a retooling one lol
