Description
Idk what the cap will be next year. I've seen anywhere from 4mil to 1mil. I know it was tied to whether or not the PA could pay back the escrow debt to the owners, but I don't know where things actually stand with that. The whole bally sports thing is a huge wrinkle as well. For the sake of this post I went somewhere in the middle. 85mil.

With a deal like this Ottawa is left with 2+mil to play with to fill out that last bottom six spot. I used guys like Bernard-Docker, Thomson, Crookshank to fill out the lineup. Not necessarily to mean young guys, but they'll need to fill things out with guys on cheap deals like ELC guys. I do think Kastelic and Sokolov will be on the 4th line next year, and Kelly makes sense as a spare.

Basis of a deal. Idk I haven't thought through super far, but I think Pinto and a 1st as the skeletal structure of the deal is valid. Maybe there's more value added elsewhere, but for the purposes of this post it doesn't necessarily matter.

I think the Sens would add more for Zaitsev. There’s been reports they’re willing to move big pieces to move Zaitsev’s contract

The last thing I heard is it takes a 2nd to move him. There’s no way the Sens ever pay more than this .

I would consider a 2nd a big piece. Also I know it's been a bad contract for a long time, but if people are expecting Ottawa to need a 1st or top prospect or something to move him, I think we've lost the plot. He's got 1 season left at 4.5mil, it's not even that bad. A 2nd is totally fair value. Maybe there's a 4th or a middling prospect or something, but no reason it should be much worse than that.

What would your thought on Zaitsev (no retention) Jarventie and a 2024 2nd for someone like Derek Grant, Sam Carrick etc.

That seems crazy to me. Guys like those are available by the dozens in free agency. No value added getting one of them if the cost is a 20 year old 2nd round prospect
