Description
This is what next year's roster might look like if the Avs decide they want to keep their stars. The 2017 free agent list leave much to be desired when it comes to getting "younger and faster" but I don't see the Avs making the same mistakes they have in the past by signing 35 year old players to long term contracts. They'll sign some depth players and let their young players develop this season, sell off their UFAs at the deadline, get another top 10 pick in 2018, and have a chance to sign some of the big fish in free agency. Back in the playoffs in 2019....maybe.

All things considered, it's not a bad roster. Alzner would be a huge addition, probably cost more and longer. If you could squeeze a Hanzal or Oshie in there it would look much better. Biggest thing the Avs need, it seems, is an attitude adjustment (healthy Valarmov would help too). Could be a long couple of years for Avs fans especially if the Duchene/Landeskog deals happen. As a Bruins fan I'm hoping Gabe "lands" in BOS, lots of good prospects at LW and LD. As an AVS fan can you explain the interest in the young RD of McAvoy and Carlo with Johnson and Barrie already signed long term?

Mgmt went to Barrie in December and told him he needs to be better. His problem is he is a poor outlet passer; he prefers to carry it himself. So, acquiring a good young RHD would mean Barrie is then traded. The better option, would be for him just to get better, but that's hard at the moment with the state of the team and his recent injury, which is hampering his skating. I guess if he's still on the team in October, he'll get one more chance to fit into Bednar's system.

Thank you for the reply. Don't get to watch Barrie play, he was always a RD Krug in my mind as they're both undersized. From your explanation they are quite different as Krug likes to rush a bit, he is also a proficient outlet passer and high volume shooter.
