Hard pass on downgrading our pick for Holl. Just sign Rutta and call it a day. Holl will just clog the position and cost us

Even though I'm not at all a fan of Holl, this move -- cap-wise and RH-bottom-paring-D-wise with the hope of the coaching staff coaching the young player -- would in theory make perfect sense.

However -- and it's a HUGE however -- SJ doesn't make this move for one main reason: it will give SEA an extra option to select next offseason. DW should be shrewd enough to protect couture hertl meier labanc donato kellman kane from the forwards and vlasic/karlsson/simek from defense so that Burns is selected.

I really don't see us exposing Burns unless he is awful this season. Right now I'd rather give up Simek, he's gonna be the 3LD. Ferraro is already the better player IMO

Ferraro's indeed the better player, but we need that cap space and a 36/37year old Burns -- while he'll still be good and I fully expect him to bounce back next year -- simply will be too much at 8mil per season for 4 more years especially when we already have EK65. That money simply has to be parsed throughout the roster elsewhere.
