Description
This roster is one that is vastly different than the team the Capitals iced this year. While it would never happen, this roster is based around trading all of the underachieving veterans, and bringing up a lot of the kids from the Hershey Bears. First the team trades away Brooks Laich, Jason Chimera, and Justin Peters to the Buffalo Sabres for their two-second round picks. This deal works well for both teams because it gives Buffalo three roster players that take them up $7M towards the Salary Cap Floor. The Capitals then trade Troy Brouwer, the 31st overall pick from Buffalo, and the rights to RFA Chris Brown to the Blackhawks for Patrick Sharp. With the rise of younger players for the Hawks, and being a salary cap team, this deal gives them around $2.5M in cap space, two prospects, and a forward they know well. They then re-sign the following RFA’s: Braden Holtby (6 Years/$36M), Evgeny Kuznetsov (2 Years, $6.5M), Nate Schmidt (1 Year, $1.25M), Philipp Grubauer (2 Years, $3M), and Garrett Mitchell (1 Year, $575,000). This roster also has an open spot for the signing of Russian FA Sergei Plotnikov to an ELC. I like to think all the trades and contracts I made were fair for both parties involved. However, any trades do not have any regard to potential NTC/NMC that are within contracts because I do not know where I might find that information. Let me know what you think.

As for the lines you would have the following:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Ward.
Burakovsky-Kuznetsov-Sharp.
Plotnikov-Beagle-Wilson.
Stephenson-Latta-Mitchell.
Orpik-Carlson.
Alzner-Niskanen.
Schmidt-Orlov.

Holtby.
Grubauer.

Wow. The first Caps roster on CapFriendly. How far this team has come, and how little has changed in a couple years. Michael Latta no longer looks like a second line center, now that he's not in the NHL. Schmidt, Orlov an Kuznetsov moved up a bit. Tom WIlson actually is getting some time on the top line this year. Orpik isn't exactly playng like a top pair defenseman, anymore, but the Caps are undefeated this year in games when he plays 23 minutes or more, so he's not too far off.

Nice roster. I'm sure Garrett Mitchell will be here any minute.
