Wouldn’t trade Jarvis for Marner straight up. Leafs had their chance at Jarvis and they gave him away.

Not enough for the Canes to take on Anderson and Dvorak, let alone trade Necas.

Necas Offer
Trouba isn’t waiving and the Canes aren’t trading Necas for Kakko. They want either a player on the same level as him or a high end prospect. Doubt New York deals any of their top 6 players especially to Carolina so I just don’t think there’s a deal to be made between these two for Necas.

Utah - Year One In-Depth Analysis
Like the analysis. Feel like the Canes are looking for someone younger or with more term but this deal should catch their attention. Schmaltz replaces Necas’ production well and the retention makes him even more valuable. Like you said, him only costing about 3 mil opens the opportunity to replace Necas in the top 6 and still target another good player.

Positive Offseason
The canes are just gonna qualify and trade him if they want to move on? They aren’t just going to let him walk and get nothing back. Don’t really get what you’re trying to say. Also he’s not signing for that cheap.

Not crazy about trading Necas for a $7.5 million defenseman then doing nothing to address the forward group after moving him. Also doubt the Sharks move Ferraro for that.

Canes pass on both trades, especially the Necas deal and Pesce gets at least a million more than that on the open market.

Habs potential trades
Probably the Necas to Montreal trade that’s the most fair for both teams that I’ve seen. The Canes may want more immediate help but Roy could have a shot at a roster spot next year, though he would be competing with the likes of Nadeau, Blake and Unger Sorem. Unless they straight up flipped those assets for another player, which could happen, they might have more interest in someone like Beck, as the center pipeline isn’t nearly as stacked as the wings.

They may want to hang on to Drury to be their 3C depending on what happens with KK but the values fair if they were to move him.

The Call for 2RC Is Coming From Inside The House

I liked him more than some. Honestly I really wanted it to work out here but seeing how he finished the season as the 4LW it’s pretty obvious he wasn’t a great fit here. He was kind of meh down the stretch in the regular season but offensively, had a decent playoffs and scored some electric goals especially in round 1. Considering he’s making almost 4 mil and we’re planning on targeting a better 2C, he seems like the obvious choice to go for cap reasons unfortunately.

Whole lot of meh for Necas. Outside of Marner (assuming he would sign a reasonable extension which is unlikely) I don’t think the Leafs have the pieces the Canes would want. I like Liljegren but I wouldn’t give up Necas for him.

I’d be open to Necas at 2C (I feel like that’s what it’s gonna take to convince him to stay). I just don’t know if Rod thinks he would be a fit. If he did, he would have been the 2C last season. He’s below average on defense and not great at faceoffs. Just doesn’t fit the bill for a Brind’Amour type center. If they can’t find a deal for him, they should suck it up and try him at 2C and find a good winger to be with him.
Kid line is a really interesting idea. I think Suzuki still has some upside, he just hasn’t been able to catch a break with injuries. If all goes well that line could be electric. Size is a concern on that line though.
I’m high on Chatfield but I just don’t know how well that 3rd pair would pan out. He’s good but he’s no Slavin and Tony’s stats from his first tenure with the team and this past year speak for themselves. He’s SO much better when he’s stapled to Slavin. Think we’re better off signing a cheap defensive LD and running a more shutdown pair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Black61</b></div><div>Necas isnt a C lets stop with this blatant lie. Hes been in the NHL for 5 full seasons and doesnt even have 900 faceoffs total and has never even his 500 in a season.Hes a winger.
He finished 9 points behind matheson this year while getting over 2mins of pp time per game. Again as a forward.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Played C in the postseason, SUCKS in the dot so he doesn't take draws, but plays C between whistles. Not only that but it’s just the canes needs. They’re not gonna trade a 25 year old top 6 winger (when they already need forwards as it is) for a 30 year old LHD that’s had just one full year of that production. They have Slavin and Orlov already and Nikishin will be joining the team by the end of the season. They’re not gonna pay up what Habs fans expect for a player who’s gonna play their 3rd pair for the bulk of his time here. A reason he had such an impressive season offensively was because he was getting a ton of ice time. He’s just not gonna get that in Carolina and he’ll probably return to his usual 30-40 point pace at best like he was prior to going to Montreal. I’m sure he can get a 1st+ from a team who actually needs left handed defenders, but it won’t be the Canes and they sure as hell won’t be moving Necas for him. I’ve never understood the obsession with sending him to the Canes.

LMAO take one look at the canes roster and tell me why they need Matheson. Just because a trade makes sense for one team doesn’t mean it does for the other.
