No stupid Necas move
Kuzy has done nothing but improve his stock since being traded to the Canes. He isn’t a cap dump by any means.

I get he disappears at times, but why would the Rangers trade Zibanejad at all, but especially to the Canes? If both Burns and Zibanejad waived, I don’t see a reason for the Canes to not take that.

Questions for Caniacs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Yeah. There are a lot of reasons that paying to move KK makes no sense, specifically the U26 buyout cost. I honestly don't think CHI and CAR are good partners, either. I'm not really asking as a CHI fan and not necessarily with CHI as the acquiring team, but mainly just looking for generalized answers out of curiosity as a fan of the NHL.
No offense meant, because I don't know how to say this without sounding mean, but I personally think your expectation for a return on Necas is bonkers. CAR would have to add a mountain of value on top of Necas to even come close to getting Bedard or our 2nd overall pick. haha. But, I know, I asked and you answered. So, I appreciate you taking the time.
Regardless, if you had to put a single pick value on Necas, doesn't have to be one that CHI owns, what would it be? 15th overall? 10th overall? 5th overall?
Also, generally, what do you want and/or what do you think you could get for KK, with and without retention? Again, not specifically with CHI in mind, but in general.</div></div>
I know that the Hawks have a surplus of LHD, which isn’t something the Canes need, and with the Hawks pieces of interest basically being limited to Bedard, Murphy, and 2OA, I personally don’t see a trade to be made. I will say, a line of X-Bedard-Necas would be absolutely electric, and I think that would basically be the only reason Chicago would consider making a move for Necas.
As for pick value, taking into account the difference in draft quality, the only comparable picks in this years draft are likely in the top 7-8 picks in terms of potential.
As for KK, I think the Canes give him until the U26 buyout window closes to control his destiny. If he is able to carve out his role as the 2/3C, the Canes keep him. I’m of the opinion that the KK we saw at the end of last season and the beginning of this season was the true KK, and if that is the case, his contract is a very good contract. As for would he would get via trade right now, I have no clue.

Questions for Caniacs
With the buyout penalty being as cheap as it is, if no team is willing to pay for KK, which it sounds like there is a couple of teams willing, the Canes will just buy him out. No point in spending assets to move KK when the buyout is only about 800k.
As for Necas, Chicago doesn’t have much to offer that the Canes would be interested in. Canes aren’t interested in a futures type of deal for Necas, and there are only 2 roster players the Canes would likely want, 1 of which Chicago would consider untouchable. I get Chicago doesn’t want to move Murphy, but since Bedard isn’t getting moved, he is likely the only other roster player the Canes would want.
I don’t see Chicago being open to moving 2OA, but maybe a deal can be reached for 2OA and a prospect for Necas and 27OA, but that is almost certainly not going to happen with how great a difference between 2 and 27 there is.
Personally, I don’t think Chicago and Carolina are good trading partners for Necas. Just too much conflicting interests for a trade to be made.

That’s really the best you can come up with? And what winning have the Leafs done, hell, over the last 20 years? Maybe at least win your division before going all scoreboard on others.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Do you even know what you are talking about or do you just spew crap all the time?! Matheson is signed for 2 more years at 4.875 mil, if youthink that is expensive, then I challenge you to find a top 4 LHD who put up more than 50 points last season and isnt on an ELC or bridge deal for less</div></div>
For a dman who averages about 30-35 points when he isn’t utilized as a number 1, so everywhere outside Montreal, who at best would be the Canes 3LD or a healthy scratch when Nikishin comes over, Matheson making 5mil is expensive for where he would be playing on the Canes roster.
Face it, as good of a player as he is, Matheson isn’t replicating the numbers he put up on the Habs unless he goes to another rebuilding team. On a contender, he is at best a number 3, and as I mentioned before, on the Canes he would be on the 3rd pair. He won’t get PP1 time or the increased minutes on a contender. Matheson has value, but not nearly as much to an acquiring team than what he provides the Habs.

Get Nurse out of EDM
The package just to dump Nurse starts with 2 firsts, and likely the 2 2nds the Oilers possess as well. Nobody wants that horrible contract, especially with the pending trade restrictions. The Canes are one of the most unlikely teams to even pick up the phone since LHD is already a position of strength and they don’t have the cap space to waste on Nurse.

Couple of Ideas
I think a big holdup for the Canes trade would be Risto’s contract. At full hit I doubt the Canes do it, but if either Philly or a 3rd team is willing to eat half of Risto’s salary, I think that would drastically change the Canes willingness to do the deal. Not sure I quite agree at that Frost valuation all that much, but I don’t think that it’s too far off.
It’s not the greatest offer, but I would take a drop in quality to fill a couple of big holes. Especially with the retention on Risto, that would allow for some good cap flexibility, maybe enough to go and find a top 6 replacement for Necas as well.

what would these young guys cost
Drury is tough. With how he has progressed this past season, I don’t think the Canes would be looking to move him unless it’s in a move to get a big upgrade at C, so whilst his value is at about a 2nd+, I would think the conversation starts with a 1st to start prying him away from the Canes, if a player for player swap is not able to go through. Maybe a package involving Drury for either of Smith or Rakell half retained.

Flames aren’t moving Zary, and the Canes don’t want another expensive LHD if they move Necas. Just because it works for the Habs doesn’t mean it works for the Canes, and you need 2 teams to make a trade.

Counter proposal:
To Toronto: Necas, Canes 2nd and 3rd
To Chicago: Marner, Canes 1st
To Carolina: Marner (50% retained via Chicago), Liljegren
Canes get a W upgrade and a D replacement, Hawks pick up an extra first for 1 year of retention, Leafs downgrade on W, but free up extra cap space that can be used to improve their D.

I think for any team to be willing to go for Hronek, his contract ask needs to come down into the 6-6.5mil range. Don’t get me wrong, I like the potential fit of Hronek on the Canes, but I don’t think moving Necas in that deal is the smart choice, especially if Hronek isn’t willing to drop his high ask. The reward for bringing in Hronek is potentially very high, but as it stands, the risk factor is also quite high.
