I also think you could spend 7mil more wisely than on Marchessault.</div></div>
Just not sure they would move him.
In Marchessault they get marner replacement, with more goals, proven experience and due to his age the contract won't be longer then 3-4 years tops

Was on the fence of including kakko , nyr fans if it's too much of an add then subtract him(But that should effect the retention). Goodrow and Cuylle + 1st is the main target here.
(So I didn't add kakko to the roster)

Jackets wouldn't buy him out. He's a clear starting goalie and if on a better coached jackets team he'll have a great season again. Then, if they want pick tarasov over him still they trade him at a premium value

Dubas gets his buddy back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>I agree with the overall message, except that there's no reason for them not to try adding one or two significant pieces via FA, but I'm not a fan of the trades.
Makes more sense for the Leafs to sign a UFA RHD that will be on the blueline for the rest of his prime like Pesce or a LHD that fits the mould of the type of Dmen that Treliving and Berube want like Zadorov. While Karlsson's skill set could be used, he's not filling a major need, and at 10M, it's an easy pass, paying the 2M on top to re-sign Marner makes a whole lot more sense since he's the more useful player overall (higher production, relied upon defensively, utilized on the PK). If traded, Marner is probably bringing back one, not two Dmen to play in the top 4 and not for more cap.
Husso at full cap doesn't make sense when the Leafs could sign cheaper options at half the price or less (worst case two two-thirds) or acquire someone like Gustavsson. Not sure that Treliving would be interested, but any GM that has an interest in Husso would probably want him at 3-3.5M and Yzerman would probably want something of value.
Signing Edmundson over Forbert, for the sake of not making a lot of unnecessary changes, probably makes more sense. He played well with the Leafs and is familiar with Berube.</div></div>
Im not saying they don't make attempts at getting a top UFA, but that doesn't work out for most teams each year. A player like karlsson would fill the PP1 need they clearly have , along with 20-24mins a night. Yes 10M is a premium aav but he's still capable of filling that with his ability.
Husso has ties to berube, played well under him and while you could get a UFA goalie for cheaper aav , I believe husso could surprise and show he's a starter in the right scenario. Getting that at a cost this low doesn't come along often. (Detroit will likely push for ullmark, markstrom etc I believe and so husso will be available for lower cost)
And I can agree edmundson would be the easier way to go but I see forbort as being much more capable and potentially filling the 2LD spot (over graves here)

A goal here was to have a more "realistic" outlook on the building of the team, in terms of not going out and pretending like you can sign 6 of the best UFA guys.
Rather have to use some trades to bring in guys, and the UFAs you do sign are of the character/task filling capacity type players.

Marner extends in TO
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Doesn't make sense to pay to dump Kampf who is a useful player, especially by trading back a 1st and if you're signing other bottom-6 players for a similar amount.
Ristolainen trade is interesting to say at the least, but the Leafs are probably better off signing a UFA D instead. If they fail to get anyone in free agency, then I would hope they have better options than this but I could see something like this being of interest to Treliving.
Leafs are probably not going to be so confident with going with Woll and Schmid as great as they've shown they can be. Not enough experience between them, Woll gets injured often, and Schmid struggled last year. Can't imagine NJ wanting to give up Schmid either.</div></div>
1st and 3rd points are very fair (In my head the leafs will try to re-sign in Jones for that veteran presence)
Risto fits into trelivings dman mold, big heavy body guy, can play with snot when needed and even has some offensive ability, but his history of poor +/- really stands out

There's plenty of cap leftover if it's a little off, but basically they would be battling for 1A 1B positions...neither have proven to be a full true #1 yet..calm down 😂

Get up off the floor leafers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Michaeli13</b></div><div>All I see is more terrible contracts coming the Leafs way...
Laine at 8.7M is wild we don't need that and Merzlkins is not worth 5.4M. Stay away from those contracts they don't need them
PS: Domi is going to want a bit of a raise, and you're already over the cap with only 2 scratches not 3</div></div>
If the leafs medical team fix Laine up like they can and he's putting up a point/game like he can then 8.7 is a lot better then 11M+.
Elvis is absolutely worth his contract but he needs better coached team in front of him then the jackets have had the past 2 years.
Domi gives a lower cap for contract length.
Steeves or ceulemans can be sent down.

I honestly think it's a "fair" deal, marner would be huge (with the extension) for the jackets. Leafs fans seem decided on moving him and he would be loved in Columbus.

An actual starting goaltender, offensive minded top4 dman, top 6 forward who needs a fresh start(and Torontos top notch medical team), nylander looking like a top 6 forward/is a top9, a recent 1st round top defensive prospect who plays heavy, and a 1st round pick....a lot of nothing tho
