Leaf draft pick, played under Berube, and it was said he'd be open to returning. That's really all it takes lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>That's how you view things. Not everyone views it the same way. I didn't need Keefe telling me how coaches and/or players feel about Toronto. I have plenty of friends and family in Canada and the US who make it well known how Toronto is viewed.
Keefe wasn't doing himself any favours by talking about this.
Also...man...if players need this for motivation this team is in trouble. Where was the motivation the last 7-8 years?</div></div>
Who said anything about players needing this for motivation?

Leafs 2024 2025 Offseason Discussion Part 1: Kill or Be Killed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>Even if it was other coaches saying that to him, he didn't have to make that public. It reeks of the same kind of lack of understanding as coaching in a market like this one.
I wanted him fired 2 years ago because I felt (and still do) he didn't really have good system, couldn't inspire the players to elevate their game and in game adjustments were pretty much non existent for most of his coaching tenure here. Him making those comments public speaks to how he wasn't the coach this team needed.</div></div>
What's the problem with making it public? It's not like he's diminishing the Leafs, he himself is speaking to how the Toronto market is unique in the sport and on another level. If you wanna get mad at these coaches that he's referencing, whatever, but anger towards Keefe, a guy who, despite a lack of success, was with this organization for like a decade and gave it his all and considered it an honour to coach the Leafs and had one of the classiest send off messages I've ever seen, over <em>this</em> of all things is really strange .

I agree with you 100%, I’m now hoping for the Devils to fail too, do you think he gets fired before his contract with the Devils kicks in? Dubas should consider himself lucky that he’s had a year away from the Toronto media, and a main talking point is not “this classless guy is Dubas’ pick and has coached for him at multiple levels”.</div></div>
Y'all do understand that these are the words of other NHL coaches right?? Getting upset towards Keefe about this is such a weird response.

In the end Domi wants stability and has repeated numerous times he wants to stay
TOR likes him but there also flaws to his game
So for both sides working on a long term low cap hit deal is the wise move
Nick Paul signed a 3.15m x 7 year deal to stay with TBL. 3.5m x 6 year deal for Domi aint the worst. Heck give him the full NMC if thats all he wants
He gets stability and wont have to worry about joining his 10th team or whatever number he's at rn</div></div>
You don't give Domi an NMC. But that's the type of contract they should be looking for

It would take an <em>outrageous </em>amount of futures. Taking the Dubois contract alone would cost a huge premium, let alone sending Marner back the other way
Even with the futures, it's still probably not worth it cause the Leafs can't then use them to address needs because they're being anchored by Dubois.

From an outsiders perspective
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>The whole contract extension thing goes both ways though. TOR doesn't currently have Marner for more than 1 year. It's not hard for Treliving to explain that away.
As far as if you think Juuso stinks...ok that's fair if that's what you think.</div></div>
Saros will be two years older though at the time of extension and with how fickle yet influential the goalie position is, Saros needs to remain a top 6-7 goalie for his extension (probably in the Sorokin range) to not be a major mistake. That's a tall order.
And I don't think Saros stinks (though he did have an off year). Not sure how I gave that impression. It's just that we have an up and comer in Woll, and rather than going tandem we're going to not only block him, but pay a legitimate superstar winger to do it?? I'd be outraged.

If the Leafs waste an asset like Marner to acquire a goalie coming off a down year who will be 30 y/o seeking a <em>major</em> contract extension while having Joseph Woll on the upswing, I may actually march on Scotiabank arena

Until that money is spent, it's magic beans. Last year that $4m went to John Klingberg. And the idea of depth comes from the top down. The trade should absolutely be about bringing in another star guy one way or the other, just a different one to change the mix and hopefully at a better price point.

Chycrun is the best example for this. Everyone was saying how good he was on a bad Arizona team but then when he was traded to Ottawa, nothing changed. He didn't help elevate the D in Ottawa and..infact the D was as horrible as ever even when his advanced analytics are suggesting he was good.
I want nothing to do with him.</div></div>
That is a really weird take. He was good in Arizona and good in Ottawa. No one's saying he's a bonafide 1D right now, but that's a guy who can put up 15-20(+) goals and 40-50(+) points from the backend while also being pretty solid defensively. Why on Earth would you want nothing to do with him?

Kyllington at a Benny number is for sure a good bet. Not too old and Trev has lots of familiarity with him.
Lebanc an beau would also be decent depth bets</div></div>

I'd bank on him being better than a good 3rd liner - he already is in my books. Dude's defensive game is unreal and he doesn't have any major shortcomings. I'd more than happily pluck him in my top 6. Cap maybe isn't ideal for one year, but he's the type of guy that would be a shrewd pickup for a contender as a missing piece to put them over the edge, imo. Really like that player.

That's what I'm saying. I'm not sure I love that trade off. Like <em>if</em> we hit, the best piece in the trade won't be at the top of their game and making an big impact for, what, 4-5 years? Not sure I'm content with that for where the team is at.

Going from a 100 point Selke candidate to Oliver Bjorkstrand is a major hit

My Attempt At Fixing The Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DevilsFanZack13</b></div><div>It's a shakeup of the core 4 which should've happened a year ago. Adds much more depth throughout the lineup and gets rid of 1 of the $10mil + cap players that doesn't show up in the playoffs.</div></div>
A shakeup and getting rid of a $10m cap player doesn't mean squat if the team doesn't get better, or at the very least move laterally but with new elements.
Doesn't add more depth to the forward group at all - which is where our main problems come playoff time have been. This essentially subs in Crouse for Bertuzzi and McBain for Marner. Not great.
The additions/new contracts (Edmundson for $3m?? NOPE) on D are pretty underwhelming too. And I doubt that Montour signs that deal anyways. Some team will give him like 6.5-7 probably and regret it.
This is just a straight up worse team.
