Both supply more:
Size
Grit
Experience and Locker room qualities
Ruttas a better mentor
Who’s going to step in for injuries if we trade both of them?
Also we need someone like Burroughs who can be a protector. We need toughness and Rutta just won gold at worlds - I’d be interested in seeing him return and if he can be a quality pair for Shakir.
Addison had all the opportunities and was given free rein of the PP. I’d rather move on or put him in the AHL and see if he can improve.</div></div>
I don’t think Addison should be back either. I think the Sharks let him walk, so I’m not sure why you went immediately to him.
Rutta and Burroughs represent 1/3 of the d core of one of the worst teams of the cap era. Saying they should be kept at all costs is ridiculous.
As to who plays instead of them. Ideally good right shot NHL defensemen signed in free agency (Roy, Demelo, Pesce, Walker)or acquired via trade. Worst case they just give those minutes to see what they have in Thompson and Emberson.

Ship out Addison or Benning.
Minimum I’m taking is a 3rd + attached to him
I’d rather sign a larger RD like Myers.</div></div>
Keep Burroughs and Rutta at all costs? That has to be sarcasm right? Or just for tanking purposes?

Another Rough Year
Celebrini and Smith will be with the Sharks next year. No reason for Celebrini to go back to college when he was already the best player at that level as a 17 year old. And there’s no point in putting Smith in the AHL, and Grier has already said he’s ready for the NHL.

I would love to hear your logic behind the Sharks trade.
I love it when AGM makers take on cap dumps for their teams and get well compensated for it and then in the same AGM, they flip the cap dumps to another team, but suddenly they don’t have to compensate the other team for taking the cap dumps.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>Celebrini and Smith don’t need to take 1C and 2C roles. It’s nearly rushing them to be something we want as opposed to what’s right.
Letting Granlund take 1C, gives the Sharks a STABLE line. Celebrini can take 2C sure. Smith can take 3C or W as he said he’s open to starting at wing to get comfortable. I personally see the most fair lines:
(Sidebar)
I also wouldn’t expect couture to be a mainstay.
Lunds
Bords/ Gush/ Cooch - Celebrini - Free Agent
^ whoever - Smith - Kostin/ Kunin
Kostin / ^ 3rd - Sturm - Call up/ FA PKer/ Kunin
So for my own opinion.
Lunds : Stability
Bords - Celebrini - Free Agent : Excitement
Gushchin - Smith - Kunin : Kunin or Kostin for grind and a good winger in Gushchin, who also gets a fair shot like Bords.
Kostin - Sturm - Cardwell or Ozzy : a fun 4th line
We can’t forget about patience and also giving both Bords and Gushchin an equal playing field to battle it out. We need our roster to compete hard against eachother not just be giving things. Let the kids take the middle6 and grow.
Then I believe keeping Rutta for Shakir is incredible valuable.</div></div>
I think the lines I created are better. I’d be hesitant to put inexperienced players like Bords and Gush on the wings for Celebrini and Smith.
I agree on Couture. If it looks like he’s going to be out again I think they just keep Kostin.
I’m also fine with keeping Rutta. I just sent him out to help clear some of the glut of bottom pairing RD.

Rutta is also a great pair for Shakir imo.
And the lines are a mess imo.</div></div>
Maybe too early, but there’s absolutely nothing in the RD pipeline which is why I signed Roy and Walker.
How are the lines a mess? I’m insulating celebrini and smith with good wings. Couture is at the point in his career where a move to wing would be best. The bottom 6 could maybe use a veteran wing, but that’d just be taking reps away from a young player.

With that said, adding the #12 pick says that Smith is of higher value still.</div></div>
Great question! I have no idea, but I hope Smith. As for Michkov coming to the NHL, that’s great! So is Smith. He signed his ELC today.
There were rumors around the time of the draft that Michkov only met with certain teams of his choosing, and I seem to remember Grier saying the Sharks didn’t meet with him, so even if the Sharks did like him, I don’t think he was an option.

I hear ya, but maybe Nurse wins a cup this year and is willing to come play with a young upstart team and enjoy the California weather while getting out of the harsh media spotlight in Canada.
Vlasic waives to either have a shot at a cup as a 7th defenseman or if Edmonton tells him they’ll buy him out.

Obviously. Getting rid of two of the worst contracts in the league ain’t going to come cheap. There’s probably a scaled down version of this deal where you take out the goalies and add another good pick coming to the Sharks.
