Montreal easily declines the NJ trade and McLeod’s likely not playing in the NHL next year with the trial pending. Arizona declines and we might get something for Ylonen but I believe Cederqvist is going to Europe, Norlinder and Andersson will either be AHL depth or unqualified

Utah's new owners said that they want to make a splash out of the box. They'll get to select a defenseman with a far greater upside than Barron or Harris at #6. Matheson is a quality defender but a short-termer who doesn't really fit Utah's window. In general, it doesn't profit for a team to trade out of a top-10 slot unless they're getting a pick in the top 20.

Matheson is not going to return that high a pick. And it’s a bad trade for the Habs anyway
