Let me guess...this trade showed up on that one MTL Canadiens fan-cast that called that one trade that one time and keeps insisting the rest of the league should feel honored to want to trade for Anderson?

Oh boy...gonna cost you a lot more to dump Anderson on somebody.
Somebody who isn't all-but-guaranteed to be on his NTC, like CBJ are. Been there, done that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Its the delay of another year of the CBJ 2nd (CBJ banking on themselves that they will be better in 2026 than 2024 or 2025).
Its a pretty even swap, but CBJ has Olivier to police and Risto is 3 yrs younger and higher upside, albeit more expensive. I would think its a small difference from one to the other, made up by the swap of 2nd and the 5th, but maybe its a tad more.</div></div>
I understand the delay, but I don't see that as adding as much value as OP may think.
And whether its Guds or Risto, neither really presents a long-term solution for CBJ, both are slightly overpaid, and its not like the age difference is significant for two guys who signed through age 32/33. We have enough youngin's coming in that are going to need the spot.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Even though I think that's accurate, Columbus doesn't see either of them as a core piece in the next 4+ years, Risto would still be in his 30s by the time we're looking to compete. Might as well keep the guy who's an assistant captain already for the 2nd-youngest team in the league.
If the 5th got pushed to a 2nd, yeah, I could see it. But otherwise it just feels like shifting deck chairs for no real hockey reason. Not a bad trade by any stretch, I just think other fanbases don't understand how highly the CBJ organization values Guds the person, and that's why we'd say no.</div></div>
Exactly. Doesn't necessarily feel like a notable upgrade either way, which is why my mind went to PHI's incentive being greater (lower cap hit/term), and CBJ getting a bit more leverage.
But if that's not the case, I'm not going to lose sleep passing on this for CBJ.

Pass. Jiricek projects as a solid RD1, and it is no issue to just buy Elvis out, or trade him retained for even a smaller asset.
Marners next contract is going to suuuuuuuccccckkk and I don’t want to touch that.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>Marner's NO TRADE list will have about 95% of the League on it.
CBJ are about of the 95%</div></div>
Honestly sounds like 95% of the league doesn’t want him either for what TOR seems to be asking.

So that CBJ trade essentially is Guds for Risto and a 5th, since the benefit is just delaying the transfer of the 2nd, not really adding one.
I’d ask for more - maybe up the 5th to a 2nd? Both are certified Big Bois™️, but CBJ are taking on the longer term and larger cap hit.
What’s the benefit to PHI here? Is it saving on term and cap?

Same. Darche, Tulsky, or Mark Hunter are my guesses.
One of them comes in, gets an Associate P. of Hockey Ops for a few season alongside GM title. If all goes well, JD steps down, they get promoted, maybe Nash becomes the new GM.
But yeah, they're probably going to dissapoint us and go with Ken ****ing Holland.

I’d have to see what Necas signs for, and we’d have to also be getting rid of a few other depth guys to make it work. Kuzy idc - buy him out or retain even more and see if someone will bite.
All in all, I don’t hate this? I still have trouble getting over the Kotkaniemi of it all, though. Just feels like too many “ifs” need to be answered before this would work for CBJ - our issue is we need to clear out roster spots, not fill them.

Habs Fan Trying to Fix the Leafs
Boone would be a great fit for any team - plays all F positions, can fit anywhere in the lineup, and is still a 25-30 goal guy on a garbage CBJ team.
But yes - he’s said he wants to stay, management has said they don’t want to move him. Objectively, this may be good value; but, the package it would take to actually move him would need to be above and beyond this.

Retention, to begin with.
He’s productive; but, yeah…it’s very hard to get over the toxicity here. Otherwise, why would COL be looking to move him?
If I’m CBJ, or really any team, I sit and wait for as long as possible. If someone wants to pay a dollar - go for it. But I think you’re going to see a bunch teams sitting on their hands waiting for the ask to go down. Or maybe some of the TOR fans can convince themselves they can Fix Him™️.
Otherwise, I’m paying pennies and basically keeping the guy on house arrest.

Y’all don’t have to worry, because CBJ pass regardless.
A likely Top-12 pick, and a high-end prospect for three years of a guy playing a position that is either already filled at a roster level (Werenski/Severson), or is projected to be filled by a top prospect (Jiricek/Mateychuk). A reliable B6 guy and a 3rd just add to the “pass” here.
