Nikolai Ehlers is available

This summer is honestly full of intriguing forward options and a package around the 23 OA pick I think could snag one.

Ehlers, Necas, Farabee + Frost, etc

If you could trade for Farabee + Frost in a package involving the 23 OA pick then trade Marner in another deal for a starter like Saros + then we cooking

I just looked at the individual team sections on CapFriendly and I’m surprised how few posts some teams had. I added them all up and at the time of writing, the Leafs thread has 1,419 posts (including this one) than the other 32 sections combined (Arizona, Utah, and 30 others). For perspective, a thread locked at 50 pages has 1,250 posts.

Did you think "Leafs run the league" was just a chirp?

I just had an idea so crazy, it might be genius.

Scenario: no one offers anything good for Mitch. We keep him.

Even if the lines are different in reg season, plan for a playoffs with Mitch in a defensive 3rd line role since that is how he tends to perform.

Find a centre good enough to play offensively, but also be used in a DFC role.

RoR was the guy, but he's a **** so our next option is...

Sean Couturier

Have Philly hold 2.75, even if we have to pay up for it and roll something like this:

1st: Matthews, Domi
2nd: Jt, Nylander
3rd: Holmberg, Coots, Marner
4th: Dewar, Kampf

Mo-
Benny-McCabe
Raifai-Timmins

Woll

Fill in the blanks with kids/signed players

Do you think Coots, Couturier, is back to form now and worth his contract?

That may very well happen to where someone offers a Guentzel like return for Marner and they keep him

But then again after July 1st all that bonus money's paid and he's owed 775k and owners will go so wait I only have to pay this guy league min in actual dollars why you not trying to trade for him lul

And when we look at the Dcore and goaltending it also kind of highlights another reason to look at moving cause that third pair is a bit of a yikes.

While I dont expect a crazy insane offer I do probs expect something around 75 cents to the dollar.

SEA and NSH are the two teams im keeping an eye on thats for sure with VGK being the kid nobody expects but always seems to get these guys lul

I think he has looked okay. I have Philly holding a large % of the deal for a reason though.

It's a bet. A crazy, crazy bet. But prior to injuries he was arguably a top 5 C. I think he could be worth 5 mil for us and play this role

While their cap hits are big the thing that makes Marner and JT so enticing is after July 1

JT is owed 910k and Marner 775k

For an owner wanting to save actual dollars thats a steal and while yes you got to extend both that can be a worry later problem or heck can always do a sign and trade

Now there are other factors besides that (NMC, return, etc)

But i do think one is gone this summer in order for improvement to happen with this team

I hear you but we are quick look at jT after this be like, lost a step.

Coots hasn't played much due to injuries, has lots term on his deal and and his production is less than even half that of JT.

I like Coots, but taking pause before to consider all the potential downsides of adding him is a must.

And what is going to be cost to get him?
Especially since you expressed the idea of keeping Marner due to cowbell offers.
Is there cap to still revamp the D???

If Frost and Farabee are available TOR should be all over them

The question is whats the pkg

And yes its probs gonna be expensive but it does help with 2 issues down the road and if they move Marner Farabee is someone who can fill in on the PK

We have a ton of space.

Also, the rumours of JTs death are GREATLY exaggerated. I'm looking forward to stealing him wayy too low in my fantasy league next year.

Coots was amazing before the injury, and he has been good since coming back. As far as bets, the upside is enormous

Expecting to hear Rod to Toronto for HC now that Carolina is gone some time this week

Weeks said there was a team ready to break the Babcock contract record

And if TOR offered him that and promised to compensate his staff its almost a sure thing he's here.

Considering that the Leafs haven’t made the Cup final in 58 years (by the playoffs next year), no Canadian team has won it in 30 years, while new and southern teams do inexplicably well (Tampa, Vegas, Florida, etc.), yes, I absolutely did think that was just a chirp

On the one hand, the Rangers ended the seasons of Rod Brind’Amour and the Hurricanes tonight. On the other, Pierre LeBrun is fairly confident in Berube becoming the Leafs next coach.

It seems like Berube is the guy. Wouldn't be shocked to see Rod join his buddy Ron Francis in Seattle is he is leaving Carolina

Further to this,

What about Kotka out of Carolina for 3C? It'd be a big bet again, but he's young and good defensively. Have him as a dump for a Marner trade (who ill remind you is only making 775k this year - so Dundin would approve).

Obv we'd be getting more back

Edit:
Actually looking at his contract, he has a super cheap buyout (long tho). Car might just buy him out. I'd give him a show me deal of they did

Remember though things can change on the fly

MLSE may go to Tree and say hold your horses Brad we want Brind'Amour as now Canes are out and there were talks a team was willing to break the Babcock record per Kevin Weeks

That dont sound like something TOR would do with Berube does it.

Makes yah think

Next to PLD would just wait for the buyout then trade for KK.

If I was to move Marner to Carolina would probs target

Necas + Nikishin as the main pieces coming back

I think Berube got what he wanted by putting the Leafs management in a vice grip.

Time will tell the truth
