Canes aren’t moving Orlov when 3 other guys could be leaving as well. Trading Orlov doesn’t mean those other guys get extended and they’re not turning over 2/3 of their d corps in an offseason.

upgrade----gt2025
Anderson is a great dman, but the Canes don’t need another LHD right now. They already have Slavin and Orlov for next season, and with Nikishin coming over at the end of next season, it makes no sense to go after an expensive LHD. They need a 1 year cheap stopgap for 3LD, and Anderson is just a luxury they can’t afford to acquire, especially if the cost is including Necas and Morrow.

Skjei walks and the problem is solved. Orlov was brought in with the intentions of Skjei leaving and Nikishin taking Orlov’s spot when he leaves.

Thank you for saying that first part. I agree Necas probably has more value but the difference certainly isn't a 1st.

D List
i find it kinda crazy that canes fans would rather hang onto orlov on this contract than move it for nothing, resign guentzel and try and find a cheaper d core option. This makes perfect sense for me (tho i dont think pesce is back), but is constnatly rejected by them.
Im intrigued what blues fans think of moving that faulk contract. he might be worth something with retention, but i agree that his value is not strong at 6.5m

The rebuilds done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oli_T</b></div><div>Matheson is the perfect remplacement for Pesce/Skjei as they are both UFA. Very team friendly contract, leader, 60 pts guy this year. To add to that, they receive a bottom 6 player in Evans to solidify their forward core, Xhekaj does have some upside, adds grit and physicality while also receiving a 1st rouder. If they decline, we are very close to a deal i think</div></div>
All of that is great and all, but the Canes have no use for more LHD. They have Orlov to replace Skjei, and Nikishin will arrive next off season. If they are looking for a LHD, they are looking for a cheap stopgap for 3LD as a bridge until Nikishin comes over. Evans holds no value as a bottom 6 C, since the Canes already have 3-4 who can play that role. Frankly, Xhekaj sucks, so I doubt the Canes would have much interest in him. The 1st being in the 20s in what appears to be a crap show draft, really doesn’t hold that much value.
If the Canes move Necas, they would be looking for 1 of 3 things, none of which is being offer here. 1) a top 6 2-way C, 2) a top 4 young RHD, or 3) a W upgrade on Necas. The Canes don’t want a futures package either. As had been said before, the Habs and Canes are not good trade partners for Necas.

How are Matheson and Jiricek in the same conversation?
Matheson was twice a cap dump in last four years.
Jiricek is a top-10 prospect in NHL.

Necas
the only reason canes would move Necas is if they blown away by an offer (that certainly isnt the case here) or Necas wants more money than they can justify. If its the latter than that contract is probably 8 8.5.mil per.

Canes pass. Demko’s a great goalie but I can’t see them possibly trading Jarvis let alone for a goalie.
