Let a man DREAM DRAI AND NECAS

Created by: michaeldym
Team: 2025-26 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 16, 2024
Published: May 16, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming Cap is $92M by 2025-26, and the Canadiens Select F Ivan Demidov 5th Overall in 2024 Draft.
All the trades make sense from a salary retention perspective, I did not retain 4 players at once.
The Draisaitl signing happens in FA in 2025, so after 24-25 season. Don't come on here and comment he would never sign in MTL, don't be so naive. Yes, it is not likely, but let a man dream!

Thoughts on trades, did I give up too much, too little? I know this offence would be great, but would the D core be good enough?

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2026 5th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Condition on CHI 5th round pick in 2026: If Dvorak scores 50 points TOTAL in the 24-25 season with Chicago or any other team, this pick becomes a CHI 4th Round pick in 2026.
CHI
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. 2025 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Condition on MTL 4th Round Pick (2025): If Dvorak Plays in 50% of Chicago's games (Not including injuries) for the 24-25 season, this pick becomes a MTL 3rd Round pick in 2025.

I have seen over the days that people think no team would take Dvorak, but let's say a team does, I would like to think Chicago. I would say this compensation makes it pretty fair. Chicago is basically guaranteed a 3rd rounder from MTL. Chicago could them retain half his salary at TDL, and a team would probably send a 2nd for him at that price, maybe even two 3rd rounder's. It is worth it for a team looking to inject more young talent over the coming years with more draft picks.
2.
MTL
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (NYR)
  2. 2026 7th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Habs get back a 3rd and a 7th. They are paying a lot to get rid of Anderson, maybe even a tad too much but if you wanna offload a guy, teams will know and you might need to pay up. Assets obtained by the Coyotes will give them so many, they better use them for trades, not draft everyone lol.
ARI
  1. Anderson, Josh
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. 2024 5th round pick (SJS)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (MTL)
  5. 2026 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Call me crazy, but I don't hate this trade if I am Utah or MTL. From Utah's perspective, yes, Anderson is expensive, however maybe a fresh start could help him. The picks that come with this are strong. 2025 MTL 2nd could be almost considered a late 1st rounder, and the 2026 MTL 2nd could be the same too, if not it would be a middle 2nd rounder. Jordan Harris is a nice bottom pairing or top 4 plug in on D, who can move the puck and plays a good 2 way style game as a Dman. I think Anderson could benefit and be a leader for a young Coyotes team. No salary retnetion on anyone.
3.
MTL
  1. 2025 5th round pick (TBL)
TBL
  1. Ylönen, Jesse [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Habs are gonna either find a way to trade Ylonen this summer, or not qualify him and let him walk. Ylonen just has fallen in organizationaI depth chart, and I do think a team like Tampa would like some players with roster control in their bottom 6 as they make changes. I think Ylonen would actually be good fit with a decent opportunity in TB. I think Hughes will try to get something out of this, and I could see him targeting a 5th rounder, however a 6th rounder for him is possible if he wants any return. Even if Hughes has to sign him as an RFA, and then trade him, the cost would be the same.
4.
MTL
  1. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]
CAR
  1. Barron, Justin
  2. Heineman, Emil
  3. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
  4. 2025 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
I think the Hurricanes are gonna love this trade. Why? Because I think it is almost an overpay for MTL. Barron gives them bottom pair or Top 4 plug in Barron, who can QB a PP2, however has to work on his Defensive game, which I believe will improve under Carolina's system. He is a former 1st rounder, and the clogged D pipe line in MTL has limited his chances, even when playing consistently and well. Emil Heineman is the best piece in this deal, I hope the Habs do not trade him, but this guy can be a great player for the Canes. I believe he has 20-25 goal potential and a 50-60 point ceiling. For a 2nd round pick, I think that is worth it, especially considering WPG's 1st round pick and a NJD 3rd round pick being part of this trade too. Carolina has some tough decisions to make with their roster, and have many people that deserve raises, making a guy like Necas expendable. The 1st rounder here could be attached to a bad contract to alievaite Carolina's cap, and sign someone else, or trade the 1st for a cheap player that provides immediate help.
5.
MTL
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (VAN)
  2. 2025 4th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Condition on VAN 2025 4th Rounder: IF VAN makes it to WCF in 2025, VAN sends MTL a 3rd Round Pick in 2027.
VAN
  1. Savard, David ($1,575,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Habs are gonna be willing to retain near 50% of Savard's salary. This will be a tough trade to make from a team morale standpoint as we hear Savard is a big voice in the Habs room. This trade I would say would happen at the TDL in 24-25. This being the last salary retention spot on the books that they can do. Petry, Allen, and Savard would then all be FA at the end of 24-25, then giving the Habs 3 new salary retention spots. I like this trade for VAN to bolster up and go for the cup.

Lose the 5th and send a lot better pick than a 4th or you can keep Dvorak.

I should hope that a 22 year old who is at .6 ppg in the AHL is not the centerpiece of a Necas trade. Burns likely QBs the first PP unit and hopefully Morrow QBs the second, maybe Orlov, but I doubt Barron gets deployed as anything other than a 3RD, or a scratch if they manage to bring back Chatfield for cheap. Canes have a lot of cap to work with and Necas will be one of the first contracts they try to sign, this offer doesn't change that.

Canes pass. Try offering something that has a qualitative aspect, rather than the crap quantitative offers we continue to see.

Do you guys not intend to ice any veterans at all? Like you have Foligno and Jones but who else are the vets that are gonna play? Well probs go back and forth forever on it.

Nope, he will not be back. Listen to 32 thoughts at what Elliotte said. Every other team knows they want to trade him, making the Canes at a disadvantage. Someone could OS him, or they could get a 1st 3rd and 2 players, one being a more quality prospect than the other. Just because Heineman has a .6 ppg in the AHL, you're gonna write him off? He is a great 2 way winger with a ton of offensive upside. He plays hard, fast, throws the body. Trust me, he is a guy the Habs do NOT want to trade.

CHI doesn't have to pay for other teams bad contracts to ice a team. We have Foligno, Jones, Hall, Dickinson, Mrazek, Athanasiou, Donato, Murphy, free agency, teams that actually pay for their cap dumps, etc. CHI will be fine.

So you think there won't be multiple teams interested in Necas? Really? There will be a bidding war more than eliminating any knowledge they want to trade him.

A bidding war to a certain extent. The packages will be like what I offered for Necas, DET could offer a 1st and Edvinsson/Bergeren + 3rd, BUF could send a 1st and Kulich/Weisbach and a 2nd. It won't be that crazy for some reason. Otherwise a team will just OS Necas and have to give up a 1st 2nd and 3rd. I think Carolina would like a drafted player who has been a couple years into development given their timeline.
