Zegras I think would be a 10th-13th range. He’s not 40+ goal PPG debrincat.

And that contract is hefty for what he is

Oh thanks for playing out the draft picks, I never actually looked at all the conditions of all of them to see how it could potentially look.

Keeping the pick feels smarter. Not a MTL fan but feels like they're a year away from moving 1sts

5.75M for a guy that could get 60-65 pts isn't hefty. Plus, he's a marketable player who sells tickets and merchandise. He had a down year and was out for most of it but when he returned he scored at a 65-pt pace. Even if he flops though, he's under contract just for 2-years.

Hughes has been vocal in saying that they're DRAFTING for forward talent with that pick. It's possible that they package something with the Jets 1st round pick to move for someone like Zegras, but that trade will not involve the 5th overall pick

Zegras is better than the player you hope to pick at 5OA in a weak draft will become, therefore Zegras is greater than 5OA.

The odds of a 5th overall pick being better than zegras is historically about 50%. The difference is with zegras you get 2 years at 6 mill and 1 year of RFA control. With the rookie you get 3 years at 950k and then 4 years of RFA control.

Alex Debrincat recieved a package equivalent to about 5th overall.

He was a 45 goal, 82 point pace player. Zegras is levels below

That should be enough to get Zegras.

The top 10 isn't weak, it's pretty decent.

I'd be pretty disappointed if my 5OA pick was one of the worst players defensively while also being just good offensively.
Dime a dozen archetype.

Sure thing Joe, keep beating a dead horse when Zegras was massively better defensively this season. He's far from one of the worst defensive players in the league and you know damn well he's better than just "good" offensively.

It's stronger for defensemen though. If they can get a TWD with top pairing potential like Levshunov (maybe they view someone else as that guy like Sam Dickinson since he's likely not going to drop to them) with more offensive upside than Reinbacher then it would probably be unwise to draft a D-men since most of them are viewed as having a top 4 potential with top pairing upside or being OFD which they already have in Mailloux. They could go with the DFD specimen in Silayev (if he drops)but they might not want to considering that Reinbacher is solid defensively.

If they are drafting by need they are probably taking a C like Cayden Lindstrom. For wingers, maybe Demidov drops but with the Russian factor they probably pass like they did on Michkov and he's not guaranteed to be better than Zegras anyways. Eiserman has dropped in the rankings but he's still viewed as the best pure scorer, same thing I don't think he'll necessarily be better than Zegras but he's likely to be the much better goal scorer. They do have Caufield though, so it's a skill set that they already have even if Eiserman might turn out to be better. Then there's TiJ Iginla who is probably not going to be as good as Zegras skill-wise but might be a more complete player, taking him that high might prove to be an embarrassing mistake though.

Still god awful defensively, slightly better than good offensively? That better?

I'd say very skilled and quite good offensively but terrible without the puck. He's all flash and no substance.

With 2022 being a weak draft, I guess that means there's no chance Cutter will ever come close to superseding Zegras in the Ducks lineup ?

Right ?

Olli Juolevi, Barret Hayton, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Kirby Dach, Kappo Kakko, Jessie Puljujarvi, Michael Dal Colle, the list of busts goes on for players selected at or around 5.

Zegras was a steal in a star studded draft and is a known top 6 talent in the NHL today. Moving Zegras for only 5OA leaves Anaheim in a position where "winning" is only breaking even if the guy taken becomes as good as he already is.

Gauthier looks good, but he's done nothing at the pro level yet.

When will Montreal fans get this daydream nonsense out their thick skulls. Verbeek has stated multiple times in multiple PUBLIC appearances that he has no intention of moving of Zegras.

Montreal fans need to also learn to stop talking stupid rumors so seriously. Take a brake off twitter and stop listening to Frank Seravalli. Cause new flash: he knows absolutely nothing about the Ducks and consistently is wrong about the Ducks.
