No, he's a shutdown defenseman. He's not a punishing physical defenseman like the guys you mentioned, but that's not the same thing.
He's LA's version of Mattias Samuelsson from Buffalo or Jonas Siegenthaler from New Jersey.

It's moot because Anderson isn't going anywhere. He's finishing his contract (if not his career) with the Kings.

Doughty deserves a better dance partner to play with since he is not "The Spring Chicken Anymore" Sorry that's reality...</div></div>
I'll go so far as to say that Mikey Anderson is the best partner that Drew Doughty has had since Willie Mitchell left. Doughty just put up one of the single best seasons of his career playing with Anderson on his pair.
I'm not sure what Mikey Anderson and Lubo Visnovsky have in common.
Mikey Anderson is one of the premier shutdown defensemen in the NHL. His shot is not part of his skill-set, nor should it be. He is very good at breakout passes, is solid in the neutral zone, and is exceptional defensively. His $4M cap hit is a steal.
Mikey Anderson is going to be on the Kings for a very long time.

I've watched every single Kings game from the last 25 years, most of the home games in person. Mikey Anderson was not the problem.
The Kings PK was picked apart by the Oilers PP. They allowed 9 power play goals against. Do you know how many Mikey Anderson was on the ice for? Exactly 0.
He's a top quality defensive defenseman on an incredibly team-friendly contract. Most definitely not a "liability."

Mikey Anderson is the next captain of the Kings. He's not going to be traded. Carolina isn't going to trade Necas. Both teams say no to that one.
Danault has been the single most consistent forward and best value contract on the Kings since he was signed. Especially with Kopitar on the decline and only a couple years away from retirement, they need another Selke caliber center more than ever. He makes everyone around him better. He turned 4th liner Trevor Moore into a 30 goal scorer.

There is no trade that has Byfield or Clarke for Marner as the core, regardless of what you add to either side. Make the 3rd round pick a 1st round pick and still no.

That on paper the team looked good enough to win a Cup.

Every Leafs team for the last 7 years or so has been good enough on paper to win the Cup. This is no different.

He used to be a nice combo of skill and a pain in the ass to play against.</div></div>
Arvidsson is great when he's healthy. Also, because he was on LTIR for over 100 days last season, he's technically eligible for the Connor Brown contract (i.e. deferred games played performance bonuses). There's probably enough demand for him on the UFA market to where he doesn't go that route, but if he feels like he's not getting the best offers because of his injury history, he could go that way to get a "prove it" season under his belt to show teams that he's still healthy and productive.

I don't think they need a shutdown 3LD replacement. I think they need a puck moving LHD (essentially a left handed Spence) to replace Englund and a shutdown RHD replacement. They already have two shutdown LHD in Anderson and Gavrikov.

I like most everything here, but I don't think the Kings will run with both Spence and Clarke. If Roy doesn't re-sign, I think they'll go sign or trade for a less expensive defensive RHD.

Binnington is not worth his contract and the Kings wouldn't trade their highest scoring player over the last two seasons for him, even with retention.

The goalies don't suck. Their PK just gets dismantled by the Oilers' NHL-history best power play every year. Binnington would not have fared better.

Yes, he's pretty meh. As evidenced by being outperformed by his ELC replacement that you're replacing him with here.
At a cap hit of $4.5M, I'd consider not making St. Louis provide compensation for taking his contract.

Why would the Kings trade their leading scorer over the past two seasons for that pile of meh?
