After Jul 1st, they take it and run. Question is do Tavares and Malkin do it. I say they'd both do it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DarthKane</b></div><div>Jones takes a lot of flack but he's the Hawks best d-man and they can't afford to part with him without backfilling with a workhorse RHD. Within the next few seasons I expect Jones to slide down the lineup as some of the prospects develop, which is a a great thing for the team. I'll take Jones on my 2nd pairing ever day.</div></div>
Well, here's at least one Hawks fan who can put forth some semblance of a reasonable response, even though I disagree.
Jones will be 30 years old next season and is on a contract that pays him significantly above his current value. The Hawks are unlikely to contend for at least another four years, by which time the $8.7M in extra cap space could be allocated to a much better and younger player. Keeping Jones could hinder the team down the road. On the Leafs, he could provide three or four years of solid play during our Cup contention years, which is exactly what we need. While it's hard to gauge what a trade like this would actually entail, I think a trade involving Jones could be beneficial for both sides.

Brodie by far plays the hardest minutes of any dman we have. Sitting him might not have the desired effect you think it will.

I agree but man who do you sit instead? Even though Brodie hasn't been at all himself, gotta believe he brings his A game in the playoffs. If Lily comes back playing at the level he was pre-injury, no chance he comes out. So, its likely gotta come down to Benoit or Boosh. Very tough call as Benoit seems to be getting better each game and love having the pairing of Benoit-McCabe.

I have seen my favorite team win the cup 5 times in my lifetime. I went to every pens home playoff game in 2016 and 2017. I got to be in the arena for my two favorite teams go at it in the 2016 cup final. I watched Kunitz score one of the biggest goals in franchise history in game 7 double OT against Ottawa.

As a sports fan I appreciate what the Pens have done especially watching Mario - IMO the best to ever lace em'.

Two overpaid 4th liners, an ahl defenseman, and a 5' 9" third liner does not get you a top shutdown dman, a top shutdown center, and a high energy top 9 forward, all on great deals.</div></div>
Besides the fact that this deal is actually not as bad as you're making it out to be, Dubas LOVES these guys and would probably do this in a heartbeat!

Great points. Excited about Dewar as well. Holmberg is also a guy that has raised his play in big games, even won Playoff MVP in the SHL if I'm not mistaken and showed really well in the playoffs with the Marlies.

You don't watch or know very much about the Leafs do you? Boosh and Rielly click well together, no different than other similar tandems like Hedman-Schenn/Bogo, Staal-Montour, Orpik-Carlson etc.. Also, you'd think a Pens fan would appreciate Nylander on a better version of the HBK line, which included prime Kessel on the what was indeed your 3rd line.

This trade would be wild. A lot of value going to St Louis. They could retain 50% on Brodie and flip him for a 2nd + 4th or so.
Leafs defence is no longer soft. They are huge and have some physical guys here. (of course Parayko is huge but not physical, I get that).
I think this is quite well done.</div></div>
Why do that when Rielly & Boosh work so well together? Pretty sure Edmunds played a fair bit with Parayko during their Cup run as well if I'm not mistaken. Either way this seems like pie in the sky but just couldn't help myself visualizing what it might look like lol

Even if it isn't a slam dunk that he re-signs and wants a trade (which given his recent comments is extremely unlikely), he's simply worth more than your offer.</div></div>
If they can't extend him by the TDL, then a trade isn't out of the question. I like the player, and I agree that he is worth more, notwithstanding the lengthy hiatus, which is why I'm curious to see how it unfolds.

It's outlandish because you guys never actually look at the context of the trade and simply throw in random players you don't want and a few nothing picks for players that are worth more, and if you look at the context saying he will "likely explore the market" is a flat out lie and only a justification for your bad offer.</div></div>
How is saying he likely explores the market "a flat out lie" when his current status is in fact a pending UFA? There's no guarantee either way. Expressing his appreciation and loyalty to the team after a rough stretch for him, doesn't necessarily mean its a slam dunk that he re-signs.

That's Poor Asset Management 101. My comment was sarcastic in that you're not going to spend that money anyhow so why not unload Anderson and get a 1st rounder back, That retention ends precisely when you'll be ready to actually use that cap space.
