its a 14 man roster and 3v3. Don't think Stamkos or Kane would be chasing the money at this point in their careers and Domi would be asking for more than that to make the jump. Im thinking its going to be like a Drouin, Duclair, or Sprong type of players

honestly 30 million is so much that I wouldnt be suprised if every team has 3 decent NHLers and dont have to pick from guys in like the liiga, KHL, or SHL. It will also be interesting to see if NHL teams will be okay with letting their prospects develop in this league and see how much more talented prospects could earn in this league vs NCAA or CHL.

We can develop the prospects while still trying to remain competitive, in fact I think thats one of the only ways we can remain competitive. Guys like Groshev, Duke and Huuhtanen are going to need to step up and play important minutes in the bottom 6 if we want to have a chance at winning.

its not exactly like we can tank, we don't have our 1st round pick next year and even if we did I think the lowest we could get is maybe 10th. Just have to wait until Stammer and Heddy retire and Kuch gets worse for a full rebuild. In the meantime dont mortgage picks/prospects but try to be competitive by signing players to lower AAV long term contracts that will look bad 6 years from now when were in the middle of the rebuild.

just because TB lost doesn't mean there was no effort, believe me, none of those players wanted to be in line for that handshake with panarin. Which was classic.</div></div>
to me it sounds like you are trying to describe "generational" players vs "franchise" players. Also I agree that not all 32 teams have a franchise player, there are some teams that have mutliple but to me at least it is the top 32 players in the league

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>Eichels always hurt and barely a point per game player. That's not exactly franchise level in a league where 100pts is nothing to some of these guys. He does elevate in the playoffs though I do have to give him that.
I don't know, Crosby doesn't get 100 pts anymore either, but who in the hell is going to argue against that. Not me.
The refs are what they are, they even things out and usually the other team complains just as much. The better teams just push though it.
We'll see on DAL and VGK. Looks like they will have to go through both COL and EDM. History is against them. 7 of the last 10 cups are won by franchise level player forwards. They probably have to go through 3 of them to win as it is right now. I don't think those are good odds for either team. Especially when McDavid looks like he's on a tear. That's 25 minutes every game of being on the wrong side of the ice when it counts.
Rangers have a better shot than you think. But we'll see. That will be an interesting match up. NYR are built for playoff hockey. They can get into the mud. It's not always about being faster. Hockey is short distance game at times. It's better to be quick than fast. That's kind of Panarin's thing. He's never been blazing, but you just don't want to cover him. He'll shake loose and make it hurt. He did that to a much faster and better TB team. No one gave them a chance.
I think the rangers match up well. It's a 50/50 game for me.</div></div>
There were only 9 guys to get 100+ points in the regular season, to me a "franchise player" is if there was a mock draft and every team picked their first player 1 to 32 those 32 players would be considered "franchise" players and I think eichel is a top 32 player.
I would disagree with things leveling out in terms of reffing, maybe over the course of a season sure but not over the course of a playoff series and they can determine often who wins or loses a series. One player can only do so much, it takes a team to win or else EDM would win every year. Until EDM get an actual goalie and defense they wont win. COL has a pretty good forward and D core although again the goaltending just isnt good enough to give them the edge against VGK or Dallas imo.
That 2019 TB team gave the least amount of effort in that postseason I have ever seen so I wouldnt evaluate panarin on those 4 games, although he is a good player. I just dont see them being able to handle the panthers constant forecheck but we will see.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>stop blaming refs.
DAL is laughable, they would be lucky to ever make it to the cup. They don't have a franchise player and it's been holding them back for years. It's the same reason why I'm not sold CAR can beat NYR.
EDM, COL, VGK all pretty equal chances over there. VGK doesn't have a true franchise guy, but they are really deep. But a guy like McDavid or MacKinnon can take games over.
The same is true in NYR with panarin. The rangers will give FL a run for their money in the ECF is my guess. They are a better team than you give credit.</div></div>
"stop blaming refs" kinda hard to do when they directly impact the results of the games. Dallas is the 2nd best team in the west behind VGK imo, insane depth that only VGK can rival and they may not have that number 1 but they have at least 6 elite players, they would beat any other team in the west. EDM's defense and goaltender is not good enough like always(just wait until round 2/3) and COL doesnt have good enough goaltending. I would consider eichel to be a franchise guy for VGK he is at the very least a top 32 player in the league. NYR have no chance against FL their roster isnt as deep and they arent as fast or good at forechecking.

Only real question is can CAR actually hang with NYR. I'm not sold they can.
FL vs NYR should be an interesting matchup for the ECF.</div></div>
sergachevs first game was game 4, they might have been slightly outmatched but that series should have went 7, some of the worst officiating I have every seen. Also no team in the east even has a chance at beating FL, its going to be VGK or DAL, thats it.

the leafs problem is having 40+ mil locked into 4 players not worth 40+ mil. I was talking about like if we lose duclair offering him 4 vs 4.5 or something similar, I think in those scenarios it would cost a 3rd or more at the TDL to just reacquire the asset we could have got in FA.

yes, I would preferably only want to trade a 4th to get rid of the sheary contract but it also depends on the situation. If we hit FA and we need the extra 500k instead of buying out sheary on signing a decent player then it might be worth parting with a 3rd

500k could mean the difference between signing a big target vs medium target in FA or possibly millions of dollars in accrued cap by the TDL

? what would be wrong with spending picks for cap space back? Obivously the quality/quantity of picks would have to make sense but I would rather have the cap space than picks. Also buying him out should not be the option, sending him to the minors would only be 850k for the duration of his contract vs buying him out would be $583,333 the first year, $1,083,333 the 2nd year and $583,333k the 3rd and 4th years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Scoring goals isn't the problem. Why add Kane for $5.5m? Just bring Duclair back at $4m and spend the extra on better blue line options. Luby and two rookies doesn't exactly seem like the solution to the defense issues this team has.</div></div>
by getting another top 6 forward everyone gets slotted where they are supposed to and we have been letting in less goals, we kinda saw that with the duclair trade. The first 5 or games duclair was amazing and then after that I felt that he has only been okay. His numbers are impressive but we have to remember he has been playing with kuch and pointer and at this rate I think he is going to be asking for more than we would want him at. I wanted to get Kane because at his age he probably wont ask for term and is the best player they could probably afford, only player that drives play for a top line that they could get at around 5.5. Maybe he could get cirelli going offensively and he has familarity with hagel. In all honesty we could probably use a better two-way player like stephenson or debrusk but they are probably going to want term. I think defensive D-man are super undervalued and guys like boosh or chatfield would do the job just fine while making a fraction of what it would take to get like Skjei, Pesce, Montour, DeMelo. etc. Lilleberg and Crozier played good enough for bottom pairing minutes imo and Raddysh could rotate in and out as a 7th D. It also doesnt really matter how good they make the roster until they make the system more structured and aggressive, sitting back makes every players job harder and makes them look worse than they are

I agree with all of your assessments maybe besides lilleberg. I think he has done really well jumping up into the rush and closing the gap on guys and being composed with the puck. I wouldn't say he has any more turnovers than the other guys and his speed for a defenseman is pretty special. I also really liked Crozier in his short time up.

I feel the same about reinhart but younger star level players arent really hitting UFA anymore and I like his grit and experience. I would start Geekie in the AHL at the start of the year with aku raty being the fill in, if he isnt ready he could stay down but this is a more optimistic view of the team. Stephenson would be better in the middle 6 imo and yeah im not sure if there is much demand for kerfoot though
