Seattle

I wouldn't say you heard wrong but too many people want that Vegas experience. There is pressure to win now based on another season ticket price jump and wanting to maintain community interest. If the city gets a NBA franchise that's also another reason to be really good.
My guess is when the team becomes competitive the only expansion picks left on the team will be Larsson, McCann, Eberle, Daccord, Borgen, and maybe Gourde.

Seattle's real compete window is about 2 years away so trading for a slightly older injury prone prospect doesn't do them much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>Why not for Brodin?</div></div>
Some reasons, none are due to Brodin's abilities as I am a fan of what he brings.
1) Another smaller puck moving LHD that blocks adding Evans on the roster in a regular role.
2) Seattle's not really in the best position to compete regularly in the playoffs.
3) As much as I'm not a fan of Oleksiak he does at least have size.

Gettin Bigger
Wright is off the table. Floor today is he winds up being a 3rd-4th liner that can play top minutes if needed (Sam Gagner but bigger), ceiling is that he shows he should have been the #1 pick in 2022. My take in watching him is that missing a year due to COVID really hurt him but you see what he's done in the AHL as a 19yo, and his last call up with Seattle, and there's a lot of promise there.
Personally I'm open to moving Oleksiak but not for Brodin.

Trust the Utah Process
You might be able to get Gru for just a 3rd or 4th at this point. With Disco Dan taking over coaching I think his preferred goalies are Daccord and Driedger. They'll re-sign Driedger for less than trading for a goalie.

As Seattle's top RHD prospect, Ottavainen isn't getting moved. There's a better chance of Seattle trading their Tanev than this scenario.

RF typically doesn't qualify RFA's with arbitration rights. He's been vocal that he doesn't like the arbitration process. That alone probably keeps Seattle from pulling the trigger. In his time in Seattle no RFA with arbitration has been tendered. Tolvanen may be the first so we will see.

Seattle takes that in a heartbeat, puts you on speed dial, and calls back to see about getting 2nd rounder for Tanev.

Seattle would want Geekie back. Only reason he wasn't qualified is that he had arbitration rights and RF seems to do everything to avoid that process.

Marner trade - Leafs pov
Why would Seattle move a player that's under a better contract for RFA rights w/ arbitration? Their GM already has a penchant for not offering to arbitration eligible RFA's on his own team. Francis' view seems to be all about avoiding arbitration at any cost.

I don't disagree but also no state income tax in Washington so 11M adjusts out a little better for the pocket book.

I forgot to also mention that I could see Seattle swapping 1sts with picks 9-12 if Iginla and at least 2 of the top 5 Dmen in the draft are available at #8, My guess is there will be offers from teams to jump ahead of Calgary to get Iginla.

Interesting but now that Disco Dan is the HC in Seattle I can't see them moving Daccord or Kart's based on how they performed under him at the AHL. I think there is more incentive to move Gru and Tanev at this point.

McCann has been far more efficient at wing comparted to center. Move him to wing, slot Wright as 2C, and put Bjorkstrand with Gourde and Tolvanen as they have been effective most of the last year and a half.
Trade Tanev and don't sign Charfield. This gives some roster space to Winterton and Evans.
Sign Stenlund or Jost but not both.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div> Yeah I figured so! I’d be willing to throw in something like Floridas 2025 3rd or something~</div></div>
Maybe? I think Seattle has buyer's remorse on Gru so the thought of him starting 45+ games in a season is not going to go over well. Daccord has been a local hero and I think he'll be leaned on more until Gru can start performing and stay healthy.
What's the deal with Chabot? Just time for a change in scenery or doesn't play well enough in the D zone?

Daccord's unproven but seems like the upside is there. I think Seattle is more reluctant to move Daccord then the second.

Any Toronto fan that thinks they are getting better than that is going to be disappointed. Toronto is trading at such a disadvantage in any deal involving Marner because Marner controls where he gets traded, if he gets traded, and if Toronto even gets anything in return.

If Marner waives, and Seattle is interested and Larsson agrees, it's going to be closer to Larsson straight across for Marner. Robby and Lilly for Larsson isn't even close in the same way that Tanev and McCann isn't even close for Marner.
