2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #6: The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup
Dallas' dominant performance in this round shows just how good Vegas was and had they finished top 3 in the Pacific they'd be probably be playing Dallas in the West Final instead of losing in the opening round.

I'm a little surprised that Matthews was a finalist over McDavid, but I think McKinnon will win the Hart and TL awards. Such will be 2nd and McDavid will be a distant 3rd in Hart voting.

"Blake will return as general manager for the 2024-25 season, the last year of a three-year contract extension he signed in May 2022." -NHL.com
I was disappointed to see this headline. Blake made a terrible, and totally avoidable decision to acquire PLD and he should be held accountable before PLD's NMC kicks in. Kings need a new GM to evaluate the roster and make a really tough decision about their future and they need to do it now, before they're mired in mediocracy for the next 7 years. I would shop PLD to MTL and if that doesn't work, I would buy him out before his NMC clause kicks in.

Maybe with a new HC boyz will finally wake up this time of year</div></div>
Matthews and Willie are long term pieces. JT is gone after next season and they couldn't trade him even. if they wanted to.

It's somewhat reassuring to see a consensus building around trading MM

Marner needs to be dealt. They will never be a contender with him making 13% of the cap, or potentially more on his next contract. He should have played his last game in TOR.

Filip Forsberg should be top 5 in Hart voting, imo. He doesn't have the points to compete w/ MacK, Kuch, and Pasta, but he's absolutely carried that team offensively - much like Taylor Hall in 2017-18. He scores big goals Without him, Nashville is probably a bottom 5 team.

maybe the steal of the TDL, at least for D. Dumba has been pretty good lately and he's UFA. Big W for TBL, who are capable of making a deep-ish run this year, imo.

(MTL/NJD) - Allen for 2025 3rd (NJD)
No chance Allen and Kaapo Kak are both one the opening night roster, especially if Fitzgerald wants to be GM moving forward. My guess is that both goalies will be auditioning for the backup role for next season. Devils will bring in a real goalie this summer.

Great patience by MTL here to maximize value. But, there's definitely some luck at. play, too. Had he not been injured last season, he probably would've been flipped at theTDL for a 2nd or 3rd rounder instead of the 1st they ended up with.

Dumping Kuzmenko makes this a massive W for VAN. He had negative value at $5.5M. Lindholm makes them a legit threat in the west.

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #3: After Further Review...
I believe the current combined AAV for the Devils active roster is under $60M and I think it was under $55M before Palat was activated off of IR. I can feel their playoff chances quickly slipping away. If some of their division rivals (NYI, WASH, PIT, PHI) weren't struggling as much as they are their season might already be. doomed.

Team Canada Scandal
This case is actually very similar to Duke Lacrosse, which ended with complete exoneration for the accused, humiliation for the overzealous left wing prosecutor, the fake news media, and the accuser. I'm gonna wait for the physical evidence and eyewitness testimony, if there is any, before condemning these young men. I'd suggest everyone do the same, but that's asking a lot these days.

(ANA/PHI) - Drysdale, 2025 2nd (ANA) for Gauthier
Drysdale is very fragile. So far, he's spent about half his career on IR/LTIR. ANA wins this deal right now b/c Drysdale would probably drop well outside the top 10 of the 1st Round in a re-draft and Gauthier is putting up excellent numbers in the NCAA, justifying his 5th OA selection thus far.
