Highly doubt Marner waives for SJ, and just because a scout proposed it doesn't mean the Leafs accept it

This would be reasonable In my eyes! And Marner might want out and a low profile team with less media bashing and great weather plus a good young core coming together might not seem that bad.

I absolutely hate the idea of trading Mario after trading Hertl. This team needs a leader as they rebuild and you have to be careful about trading all those guys away.

But this is pretty fair. Marner would obviously be flipped at the deadline and possibly get back more that what they're giving up here, while helping Celebrini develop.

What scout proposed this? Absolutely ridiculous:
1/ Marner waives - in a contract year - to play for the worst team in the league 🙄
2/ nothing of interest for the Leafs; Ferraro is undersized and plays the wrong side
3/ Leafs adding Liljegren & Robertson confirms this so called scout is just a troll

What scout proposed this?

Thanks for pointing out that in a typical senior moment, I forgot to hit "Save" after typing out the explanatory Team Description. It's Jason Bukala, the principal of The Pro Hockey Group, who does the scouting reports for CapFriendly. His detailed evaluation of all 26 Maple Leafs this past season are the 26 new scouting reports indicated by that red "26" in the top menu, and constitute the bulk of his long article that appeared on the MSN news crawl today. That article included an analysis of both the team with Marner, and the team without him plus a possible trade getting there. (The CF scouting reports are an abbreviated version of what he wrote about each player in the article.)

I wouldn't say that he's a troll, because apparently CF treats him as legitimate, but the reason I posted this is precisely because my reaction is the same as yours. To me, even if Marner were to waive his NMC (which I doubt just on a general basis), I refuse to believe that it would be to go to San Jose, a team that is no more likely to do better next season with Celebrini than Chicago did this season with Bedard. And it's way heavy on the Toronto side in any event.

Marner has good friends in San Jose, no ice daggers on the wind and a future star to center his line. And, its a mellow place where he won't be a constant scapegoat. There are lots of reasons to go places other than W/L record.

Leafs fans: "Marner is useless and needs to go, its all his fault we fail in the playoffs"
Also Leafs fans: "Marner is elite and we want more than an unprotected 1st round pick and 20 year-old first round center to clear his $10.9m cap"

I kind of hope he just parks for the season and goes UFA for nada.

Hard to flip him since we don't have a retention spot left.

You think Marner cares about any of that? He's looking for a pay day. You don't get pay days collecting meaningless points on the worst team in the league.
Name me the last star player who either signed or waived their NMC to go play on the worst club in hockey. I'll wait.

If he's looking for a payday and that's all he cares about, guess where the money is?
Either he is getting run out of town and he'll go where a deal is made. Or he's going to just let the Leafs pay him and sign where he wants with no assets going to the Leafs at the end of 24-25. Regardless of whether he wants to go to SJ or not, its a terrible deal for Teal to give up those assets for a $11m season-long rental. Eventually Toronto will be rid of him and there will be nothing but Cups and parades up and down Yonge for the foreseeable future.

Look at what it costs for a 3rd party to retain. its all 4th-6th rounders. It's not hard
