because you are on the internet of things. NHL fans are by and large losers that live in fantasy. If Michkov comes this early he would go #1, now that it is basically confirmed the homies will still vomit their bs towards Smith. Both are great gambles so I say: whatever

You realize that you get a top 5 pick in 2025. Chicago will finish at the bottom of the standing next season so their good chance that Anaheim end up with James Hagens or Martone with that pick. I would seriously consider it.

While neat, the difference between leagues is that 1st and 2nd round picks play on your team right away in the NFL… in hockey it’s years before you know if you got any good players.

Maybe offer that to Jersey, they are a team likely more willing to trade back. Seattle seems pretty keen on drafting one of the top defensemen this draft

As it looks now our right side will have Seider, Petry and Chariot playing on his off side. Plus by taking Fabbri Detroit is only adding about $1.9M in cap. But I haven't followed him all that closely and you have.

If we strike out in free agency he fills a hole. I've watched enough Jets to understand why Jets fans want to move him. Our options are limited, Petry can not be filling that spot. He's better than our internal options. He could be a decent partner for Edvinsson. Obviously we have to strike out in free agency and that means no Montour, Pesce, Roy, Tanev, Carrier and Demelo or other trades options. Those are the only free agent targets I think we should go after. With only 6 good options and many teams needing that position, could very easily miss on one. Pionk only has the one year left so it's pretty low risk.

If you play and up and down system chatty is great. If you play a clog the middle system chatty isn’t your guy. He gets owned in front of the net. He’ll struggle in the playoffs during a long shift in his zone

Big fellers
Team toughness is what is needed. Even the stars too. A big 4th line playing 10 mins a night, even less in the playoffs, does nothing really. Its a start, but its not a solution.
You are right, size <em>can</em> be overrated. Team toughness is a mentality and doesn't have to be just size. The top 6 needs some size for sure but the guys already there need to play tougher too.
Kucherov is 5'11 180. He doesn't take **** from no one.

10-teamer NTC. So probably most of Canada and a few other spots (sometimes high tax, sometimes personal preference like NJ, etc etc). That leaves a lot of teams that would like Holl at 2 X $1.7M I figure.
I had assumed Yzerman was just going to further bury Holl and then possibly bury Petry. But the waivers status and Edvinsson making the team mean a move is more likely.
Here’s a longer list of teams I could see liking Holl at 2 x $1.7 w/o the Canadian teams and assuming roster holes this offseason:
Minny
STL
PHI
FLA
PIT
LA
SEA

cap circumvention
It's more likely Landeskog's career is over than it is he plays in the playoffs. This isn't a TB or Vegas situation. It's a timeline that has been stated for a long time.
And as others have stated, the earliest he could return is the third round. How effective do you think he'd even be after not playing hockey at all for two years and coming off multiple surgeries and rehabs?
Every now and then LTIR is used for what it is intended. This is a pretty clear case of that.

cap circumvention
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>Is this some sort of joke? Do people ever get tired of whining about this? Apparently not. They played all of last season WITHOUT him on LTIR in case he did come back but now they're gaming the system? Also, get your facts straight: he isn't coming back any sooner than mid-May and it is extremely unlikely he comes back for these playoffs at all. Given the timetable for his recovery, it's practically guaranteed he isn't coming back before next season. He has a serious knee injury and highly risky cartilage replacement and hasn't played for two years. There is still the very real possibility he never plays a game of NHL hockey again but you think this is "cap circumvention." Give me break and get a life.</div></div>
They also had a chance to do this in 2021-22, when he had arthroscopic surgery before TDL, and they didn’t. Instead they traded locker-room favorite Tyson Jost to make room for their additions. Landeskog didn’t come back until game 1 of the playoffs, but they wanted to make sure they could get him in sooner if he was ready. And they still won.

No team is taking that contract.
Buyout is a little over 1 mil a season.
Only downside is it's 4 years.
Mazur is definitely ready for the NHL.
But Yzerman is reluctant to promote players.
See Berggren.</div></div>
Yeah it's a lot but, I'm a guy who thinks unless you have a player coming in that will take that money why not just play out the contract and it's not like you want a young guy in the 7th D spot
Mazur could make the team sure but, is he a 4th liner\defensive type player because I think the top9 is full

Washington got rid of a problem (distraction) + cap space
Hurricanes could end up with a good center depth center (or even 2nd center if he returns to his old form)
I voted fair deal in these circumstances.

(PIT/CAR) - Guentzel, Smith for Bunting, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Lucius, 2024 2nd (PHI), 2024 5th (CAR)
Wow. This is an absolute fleece job by Carolina. I like Koivunen a lot, Lucius is solid, and Ponomarev is alright, but this is Jake freakin' Guentzel we are talking about. Pittsburgh doesnt even get a 1st unless Carolina makes the SCF. Feels like Dubas could've done so much better, guys like Morrow or Blake or Nadeau would've been far more fair.
For Carolina, this is the superstar they have long wanted. Guentzel is one of the best wingers in this league, and they didnt even have to give up any of their best prospects to get him. Excellent addition and he will thrive in Carolina.
For Pittsburgh, I already mentioned I really like Koivunen and I think Bunting next to Crosby will be very fun, but man this is underwhelming. I doubt Ponomarev or Lucius become much more than bottom 6ers, and they arent really guys you want to kick off your rebuild. This is going to be a tough pill to shallow for Pens fans who rightfully expected much more for a guy who gave his all to the organization for years.
The real winners here are NHL fans who are thrilled Vegas didnt land Guentzel. Heres to hoping they strike out on Buchnevich as well!

But I don't know.
I think you're right though.
Yzerman would've needed an extension.
