I think Carolina may be OK with Perfetti for Necas because they likely can’t fit Necas under the cap if the rumours are true about their other priorities, and Perfetti can be bridged at about only about half the AAV of Necas’s next contract. Plus, Perfetti has excellent advanced stats including solid defensive metrics, and Carolina values advanced stats far more than most NHL teams.

The Iafallo trade is a salary dump by the Jets. At $4 million against the cap, the Jets can’t afford to pay that for a bottom 6 forward given the other moves I have suggested. Therefore, the Jets would need to lose the $4 million cap hit to make everything else work which is why I think the Jets would be ok with this trade.

Chaz Lucius is skilled, but behind in his development due to injuries. There are other young forwards that are above him on the depth chart, and I believe the Jets’ scouts think Barron can develop into a reliable two-way top four defenceman with decent size, and he’d likely pair well with Samberg now on the bottom pair at an AAV that works for the next few seasons. I think Lucius makes the most sense as the prospect going to Montreal given the Jets surplus of young forward prospects and Montreal’s plethora of young defence prospects, so I think this trade or something similar is likely quite realistic, especially if the other moves were to happen.

Konecny, while a very nice player, is only under contract for a little over a year and is a winger. He's a luxury not a need. There's no chance Winnipeg offers a young top 6 player and moves a top 4 RHD to get him. It gives the Jets another expensive top 6 winger while killing the depth and defense in the process. The Jets end up like Toronto, a few high end forwards with nothing to back them up.</div></div>

Walker is an upgrade over both Schmidt AND Pionk.

Seeler is an upgrade over Stanley, and he can play LD or RD, so he’s a perfect 7th defenceman.

Perfetti will potentially end up being replaced by Barlow and McGroarty. Perfetti’s lack of size and speed limit his ceiling. He thinks the game at an elite level and has tremendous vision and anticipation, but ideally he’s the third guy on a line with two big, fast and skilled players in order for that line to be effective as a scoring line.

I see Konecny as a huge upgrade for this season as a scoring winger who’s also around next season for the height on the Jets’ window to contend.

For these reasons, I would think the Jets make the trade if the Flyers are willing.

Also, I disagree swapping Tanev for Schmidt is a lateral move.

Schmidt struggles on the PK and that’s a Tanev strength. Tanev can also play higher up the roster whereas Schmidt is a (very good) bottom pair defenceman.

This also removes Schmidt’s salary from next year’s team which is when Scheifele and Hellebuyck’s raises on their new contracts begin.

Calgary gets a serviceable NHL defenceman who is overpaid for his role but with only one season remaining on his contract, plus an early 2nd round pick plus a very good forward prospect in Chibrikov, so it appears to me the deal works well for the Flames too.

About Schmidt:

He kills sheltered minutes with a young D partner, so he’s a good mentor for a team that will likely have a rookie defenceman in the lineup next season. Also, next season is the last year on his contract, so he can be flipped at next year’s deadline for futures. Lastly, he’s ALWAYS happy, positive and upbeat, so a great guy to have around for part of the rebuild/retool.

Also, Montreal’s 2nd will be an early pick in that round meaning it’s not that different from a late first round pick, so it’s already close to fair value for Tanev.

Chibrikov is there as a sweetener for taking Schmidt and his salary.

Also, if Tanev and Hanifin are traded away, Calgary will need to add a few capable NHL defencemen, and I think the Flames could do a lot worse than Schmidt given his contract status plus getting Chibrikov too.

Andersson would be Morrissey’s D partner on the top pair for the rest of this season plus two more at a reasonable cap hit.

Lindholm gives the Jets a decent 2C that’s probably above average defensively for their cup run this season with the chance he could be extended if he proves to be a good fit.

You have to give up quality to get quality, so that’s why Perfetti is included in the trade.

Jets fans don’t want to give him up because his floor is point per game, but on a top line with other talented players he could be a 100 point guy.

1st round pick (10th overall) and in his second season at just 21 years old. Yes, his floor is point per game player and you haven’t seen him enough to know. This is why no Jets fan wants him included in the trade. Earlier this season, he was the highest pts per 60 min player on the entire team, and he was also one of the best in defensive metrics for forwards already as well.

He’s likely going to be a fantastic two way centre that routinely puts up a point per game or higher but he is a little behind the rest of the Jets’ forwards, so he’s the carrot I see Chevy dangling to get the pieces that will put the team over the top.

The first part of the trade is essentially Perfetti for Anderson with the Jets overpaying a bit.

Perfetti’s floor is a point per game forward who’s very solid defensively. I hate to give him up, but the Flames are going to want a young, high quality NHL player and Perfetti is it. Moreover, if Perfetti is a winger with the Jets, I see Chibrikov as his internal replacement. If it’s centre, Lambert could be that guy.

I see the Stanley, Lucius and Schmidt for rental Lindholm as being a slight underpay considering the retained salary and the inclusion of Schmidt who’s a bit of a salary dump component in the deal.

The trade all together ends up fair for both sides.

Again, I hate to give up Perfetti, but I see Anderson as being a good D partner for Morrissey and he has some term left on his contract (3 years) that lines up well with the Jets’ competitive window.

Lindholm fills the Jets’ need for a 2C and, if he meshes with his wingers, perhaps he signs an extension here.

Ok, Ducks say no.

There are rumours out there the Ducks aren’t close in their negotiations with Zegras and they’re listening to offers.

What are they looking for to make the trade, and don’t say another young centre with similar offensive abilities because why would the other team make that trade?

They are building and not nearly competitive yet, so it’s going to be prospects. Since no one commenting on these posts is an expert on every team’s prospects, most likely any prospect based trade proposal will be shot down by most fans.

Therefore, while the exact composition of the trade in terms of young players offered may not be the right combination for what the Ducks are looking for, this sort of “multiple highly regarded prospects for young NHL 1C or 2C” might not be too far off the mark if the Ducks end up trading him.

Depends on what the Ducks think of the prospects I guess. Those are the Bruins’ top two prospects and Heinola is the Jets’ top defence prospect. The second round pick that’s Montreal’s is essentially a late first round pick as it’ll be one of the top few picks of round two and there’s typically not a lot of difference in value between picks 20 and 40 in terms of percentage of players that hit and NHL impact.

Also, if Zegras is stuck at a dollar value that the Ducks think is unreasonable, then they will be listening to offers and a futures return like this trade scenario makes sense for them based on where they are at in their competitive cycle.

Maybe they think Zegras tops out as a #2 centre and he wants #1 centre money. If that’s the case, then something similar to this trade might happen, just with different prospects if these ones aren’t what they are looking for.

I can’t speak to the Bruins’ prospects other than various websites say those are the Bruins’ best two.

Heinola is still young (and waiver excempt), and he’s supposed to be one of the top 2 or 3 defencemen in the AHL already the way he controls play in that league.
