Trading down for a 2025 pick
I don’t hate this lineup. Skeptical that Utah would let Vejmelka go for a mid rd pick that they don’t really have a need for however.

This couldn't be further from the truth. Shockingly uninformed statement. It's like you haven't watched him play a single minute over the last three years.
Since joining the Devils he's been one of the most valuable defensive players league-wide.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Value of trades aside, you have to actually give the other team something they want more than what you're taking from them. You haven't done that. All you've done is find something you consider equal value to what you're asking for.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Rossi>Holtz
13+Gus>=10 in this draft
And apart from the value, Holtz is not what the Wild would be looking for to move Rossi. They're getting a worse winger than the center they have, and Holtz doesn't have the size/aggression/physicality that the Wild need to move Rossi.
Rossi isn't available for the sake of getting rid of him. He's available if they can get a player who's as good (or better) with more size/physicality. Holtz is not that.</div></div>
This reads more like a homerism opinion than anything else, or having a unreasonably poor grasp of the talent Holtz possesses.
The pick swap with Gus included has been mocked fairly intensely on this board with very little pushback, as has Rossi for a similar level prospect.
Fine if you wanna keep your guys, but me thinking that Guerin would value some cap space gained, a better pick and a forward prospect profiling differently from Rossi in physical attributes is a perfectly plausible idea for me to run with.
Of course there might be a different trade for Wild involving this pieces with another team that would suit the Wild better.
This is a Devils AGM however, only so much I can do about that.
In any case, you have been heard. I don't have anything further to add here.

Perhaps the Devils could trade into the 2nd rd with some other team, and spare the Wild that cost.
As a base however, I don't see it being controversial thinking #13 + Gustavsson for #10 and Rossi for Holtz is nothing if not fair value given the latest messaging we have been hearing in regards to Rossi and Gus's somewhat down year.
Daws (or Schmid) would quite clearly be a value add to the Wild here as well given the rather poor depth in Minnesota's goalie pipeline behind Wallstedt.

All offense (we should have covered between Luke, Dougie, Casey) and pass completion rates are among lowest in WHL (reason guys like Bahl and Smith hurt us this year).
Would rather move back further and take Emery or Elick if we add RHD. Or just take Jiricek at #13.</div></div>
Thanks for the insight. Do not have the best insight for D-men of this draft class.
Frick it. I'll just edit the AGM so that the Devils taking a forward at #13 instead. Making a longer year-on-year series with this as my starting point anyways.

This is not really correct either, according to recent research.
23-25 is the AVERAGE prime. Meaning there will be many cases of NHLers peaking in their careers before the age of 23 - about just as many whom peaks after the age of 25.

To my knowledge, this is actually wrong.
The most recent research on the topic that I'm familiar with sets the average prime years to between 23-25.

Most of these you'll have to cut your expected returns in half.
Full NMC, 8 figure cap hit. You're looking at value closer to what Taylor Hall got when moved from Buffalo to Boston rather than Matthew Tkachuk level of return.

This is a flat out insane return for a goalie. Nothing in the cap era comes remotely close to this.
#10 overall alone would be a hefty overpayment for 1 year of Saros.

Celebrini effect
Devils right side is probably already set between Hamilton, Marino and Nemec. Casey is likely penciled in to play in the minors throughout the 24-25 season.
I suppose there could be a possibility of Fitzy moving Marino in a hockey trade, in which case your suggested Devils trade would become more compelling.

Likely
There’s no point in giving up on Holtz’s talent for a couple of picks the Devils have zero need for.
Holtz might get traded for an impact player but will most likely get another year to prove himself in NJD’s lineup. He’s a good bet to really breakout without having to play for a coach that actively works against him.

Fwiw I 'take dumps' on Markström and his perceived value on this board because I like to interrogate and refute ideas presented on a topics that I love - the NHL and the New Jersey Devils.
Also, I've been hating on Markström ever since 07-08 and not gonna stop now when he's being mocked to my favorite team for ludicrous returns.

No lmao. And even then, Fitzgerald just doesn't take pure cap dumps, not even when the Devils were at their worst in the rebuild was that a strategy ever utilized.
Like Cal above said, Schmid would likely only be traded in a package for an impact player, or maybe in a pure hockey trade.

100%. Only goalie that might be somewhat available that the Devils could trade Mercer for is Swayman.
I love Saros but the return wouldn't be much more than a 2025 1st, the going rate for high-caliber rentals.
