Leaf draft pick, played under Berube, and it was said he'd be open to returning. That's really all it takes lol

Leafs 2024 2025 Offseason Discussion Part 1: Kill or Be Killed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>Even if it was other coaches saying that to him, he didn't have to make that public. It reeks of the same kind of lack of understanding as coaching in a market like this one.
I wanted him fired 2 years ago because I felt (and still do) he didn't really have good system, couldn't inspire the players to elevate their game and in game adjustments were pretty much non existent for most of his coaching tenure here. Him making those comments public speaks to how he wasn't the coach this team needed.</div></div>
What's the problem with making it public? It's not like he's diminishing the Leafs, he himself is speaking to how the Toronto market is unique in the sport and on another level. If you wanna get mad at these coaches that he's referencing, whatever, but anger towards Keefe, a guy who, despite a lack of success, was with this organization for like a decade and gave it his all and considered it an honour to coach the Leafs and had one of the classiest send off messages I've ever seen, over <em>this</em> of all things is really strange .

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>dude you are over here constantly trying to compare MC to Crosby.
Just stop.
You make up straw man points and ramble.
The points were never that MC isn't a good player. Never. The point was he's not a franchise level guy and teams need that guy to be real contenders and analytics prove that.
If you can't get that, sit down.
God knows you can stop trying to throw his name next to Crosby and show some "model" that puts him to comparable to Crosby and McDavid.... he's not, and people who do such things are click bait idiots.
There are serious qualitative differences between him and those two. It's not even a close comparable. You should be embarrassed rambling that nonsense and thinking anyone should take it seriously.
Yes we know he's a got a chance to be a good young player... your hype nonsense strawman nonsense.
Lafrenière is a good player too, star portential...... but he's not a FP and people knew that at draft. But you have to get past the click bait hype machine that you think is just "fine" to get that far.
But you clearly aren't reading or have 0 ability to comprehend as that your strawman was never the point.
The point was a whole lot of people talking "future looks bright".... well future looks like mediocrity without a FP forward and analytics show that.
He's not that. Good player, yes, FP no. There is no indication of that right now.
NO FP....NO real contender constant uphill climb. That's what analytics show in the league.
I don't make the rules, I just point out the facts of history.
You over here arguing like you're his mom.</div></div>
“…Malkin and Crosby. No one saying they’re going to be better. No one. “ direct quote from my comment you replied to.
You talk about others reading abilities lol. But your <em>reading comprehension</em> is abysmal.
“We’re talking about the excitement for new players in the league. So the hype is warranted - it shows why you saying other posters are talking “out their a**” is just factually wrong.“ here I’ll dumb this down for you. And I’ll also simplify the model that was shown because youre clearly lost.
- no one say Celebrini = Crosby
- no one say Celebrini > Crosby
- no one say Celebrini will be like Crosby (120p rookie)
- I say Celebrini has shown he should have hype because of his profile
- Celebrini is like Crosby =/= he be Crosby
- =/= means not equal to
- heres a context example: you could say Bedard shoot good like Ovi but that doesn’t mean he is Ovi. Use your reading abilities off this example and apply it to your previous problems.
Take care buddy.

I agree with you 100%, I’m now hoping for the Devils to fail too, do you think he gets fired before his contract with the Devils kicks in? Dubas should consider himself lucky that he’s had a year away from the Toronto media, and a main talking point is not “this classless guy is Dubas’ pick and has coached for him at multiple levels”.</div></div>
Y'all do understand that these are the words of other NHL coaches right?? Getting upset towards Keefe about this is such a weird response.

Clearly there's demand as he'd be your team's best player...
Go trade Markstrom to NJD, TOR wants no part of that with Woll, Hildeby coming up the pipeline... <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>And if Markstorm was an "elite goalie" like you say he is and Andersson + Weegar are 2 number 1s... Why isn't Calgary making the playoffs in such a weak division?</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong> You basically get 20+ points off the bat from ANA, SJS, CHI and AZ
And after you're first sentence in the 2nd paragraph, I have to stop reading... You're nonsense is hilarious... Ask Brad_Treliving how I feel about the Treliving cool-aid...
1. Tkachuk's deal was good, could he gotten more term, yes but it is what it is
2. Monahan's contract was derailed by injuries, blaming Tre for that is dumb
3. Huberdeua had the biggest drop-off in NHL history, nobody could have predicted that, if Huberdeau was producing at a 20 point drop-off instead of a 55 point one, Treliving would still be in Calgary...
4. Treliving offered Gaudreau 10.5 and Gaudreau said no... How is that Treliving's fault...
And you do realize Treliving was the one to have "one of the best teams in the league"</div></div>
This ! I have no idea how someone can be so defensive of two (above-average) players on a team that didn’t even make the playoffs.

The only thing of use is the first and a single late first isn’t enough to warrant a first back + a top pairing RHD + a top goaltender. Andersson brings back more than that whole package on his own.</div></div>
Andersson is undoubtedly one of the most consistently overrated players on this site. He's not even the best defenseman on his team. It would actually be a miracle if he could ever return a superstar winger, while simultaneously getting out of an abysmal Markstrom contract and moving up in the draft.

The silliness of Marner trades
Trading Marner at this stage feels more like a statement/attempted culture shift than a hockey move.
It seems like the Leafs are saying that things won't be the same moving forward. The reality is that almost any Marner deal makes them immediately worse. But even if they move him for a bunch of picks, at this point if they signed Zadarov for $5.5M and Tanev for $5.5M and that was your "return" most Leafs fans would take it.

CJ has lots of sources that are agents. Lebrun has more sources in organizations.
Makes sense that Leafs tell Lebrun that they have been focused on hiring a coach and haven't asked Marner to waive. Ferris responds by leaking to a friendly journalist (CJ) that Marner is willing to waive.
It's actually pretty genius for Ferris. Even if in 2 weeks the Leafs as Marner to waive and he doesn't. Unless the team leaks that the public side is that Marner was willing to go but the Leafs never asked.

Big forechecking winger…grinds along boards, gets in dirty areas, will pick up the occasional dirty goal. Occasionally drop mitts. Better player than Reaves, but less goon.

I think we need to add Lindholm.
Real chances of him signing at say 7 million per?
Or adding 1 year 5 million and then term deal negotiation in season at 7?
Only happens if one of Marner or Tavares are gone.
