Forget Zegras we need Necas

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 17, 2024
Published: May 17, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've been pushing for a Zegras acquisition to accelerate the rebuild... but to be honest his play at the WC is really upsetting me. 2 points and -5 in a tournament he should be dominating and other than a few slick moves, he's not having the sort of tournament I expected.

I think the Hurricanes will trade Necas for cap reasons, so I'm trying to imagine a deal that can work for both teams.

I structured the deal so the Canes get cost controlled players over the next few years to "extend their window as the cap goes up".

That might lowkey be more than what MIN got for Fiala, and he was clearly worth more than Necas is. (We can’t forget Faber was just a decent prospect at the time, probably had the value of a late 1st)

Jeff Skinner’s no movement clause is kind of in the way here. Why would he want to play in Montreal? I think he gets at least one more year in Buffalo, then they consider their options.

Yeah. The Habs always have to overpay. I really don't mind overpaying provided we get the right guy. Necas has speed and skill. If Kent thinks his speed will mesh well with the team, I'd do this deal.

I guess it would be if he saw himself being moved into a 3rd line role in Buffalo, and seeing as he would be a top 6 in Montreal. This is just an idea. I think this helps both teams and is something of a fair deal.

In general, doesn’t seem like Hughes is the guy to just overpay. I think he stands his ground, and if a team wants Hughes to overpay, the trade would fall through

He overpaid for Newhook... Necas IS a "Mesar and Harris" better than Newhook. Wouldn't you agree?

It will be interesting to see how he meshes work Lindy. I can see him waiving to go to MTL if he knows he's going back to a Kruger like situation.

Gallagher NMC as well. I can't see him waiving and going to a team that never made the playoffs in over a decade.

I mean, the fanbase has spoiled on Skinner, so it'd be easy to see him wanting out.
Gallagher would wear a letter in Buffalo and is the type of ****head (respectively) the Sabres need.
The 3 3's are the hurdle.

I can. He's a proud guy. If another team believes in him more than the Habs, I can see him moving since he does not have kids tying him down.

Gallagher brings a nasty brand of guts and heart that the uber-talented Sabres could use.

Why trade Gallagher? His play over the last 10 games or so with Armia and Newhook really turned a corner, that could be one of the most dominating possession lines in the league, reminiscent of the Tatar-Danault-Gallagher era. Even if you did trade him for Skinner, Habs would be taking on more cap, more term and an equally bad contract, why would we be the ones adding?!

More cap: yes. More term: no. They both have 3 seasons left.

Quite simply: the Habs need scoring and one thing Skinner can do, is score.

Between Roy, Farrell, Beck, Kapanen, Tuch, F. Xhekaj, the Habs have a plethora of guys who can fill a bottom 6 role over the next 3 seasons. Skinner would fill a top 6 role while whomever we draft this year develops.

Might have a better chance if you just offer sheet Necas

My bad, I was thinking Gally had 1 year left.

Roy should be getting a look in the top 6, he has amazing offensive abilities that are severely underrated. I would rather give him that opportunity than bring in Skinner. I have my doubts that any of Farrell, Tuch and Kapanen ever make the NHL and Xhekaj is a 4th line tough guy with a bit of scoring ability (think Chris Simon with more scoring ability)
