Vancouver Canucks signed Christian Felton (1 Year / $950,000 AAV)
On the one hand, I agree they likely won't play in the NHL.
On the other hand, you need AHL defencemen as well and the Canucks have plenty of empty contract spaces for next year.
It's a 100% buriable contract that didn't cost a single asset to sign.

Hes a good defensive prospect who can skate better than most undrafted players at his size.</div></div>

Good point on the starting date. I should have paid more attention to that.

Calgary Flames signed Hunter Brzustewicz (3 Years / $950,000 AAV)
They should eventually become a solid middle-pair for the flames. They likely won't do that before this contract is over, but they should get some NHL games under their belt within the next three years.

As a Canucks fan... probably closer to $3 million. I think we lose him this summer.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Bobby McMann (2 Years / $1,350,000 AAV)
Who is voting no on this? He's on a 20-goal, 40-point pace this year and his on-ice goal differential is 5.8 ABOVE expected, and this is with limited ice time. Now that he's proven himself, that ice time, and the production, will go up. You would spend nearly $3 million on a player like this and the Leafs have him for half that for two years.

Normally I would be fine with this, but Boston only has one more contract space and since this player isn't going to make the NHL this year, it seems like a waste.

(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>It’s not a bad contract.</div></div>
Yes it is. He hasn't been worth $6.75 million this year, or last. There's zero chance he will be worth $6.75 million next year or the remaining SIX YEARS of his contract.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>Hertl has put up positive value on one of the worst rosters in HISTORY!</div></div>
His on-ice goals against average is 13.5 BELOW expected. No other top-6 forward on the Sharks was worse than that. You think that's going to get better with Vegas?

(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>You’re talking like Hertl is ancient. 30 ain’t old.</div></div>
Peak for NHL forwards is 28-29. By 32, they tend to have a serious drop off. Furthermore, he's not that good right now. He's a 60-point centre who isn't good defensively.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>Your reasoning is basically give nothing up ever for anyone because they can age out.</div></div>
No, my reasoning is this:
1.) He's not living up to his contract now. He's not even living up to the reduced contract Vegas has to pay.
2.) He's 30 already, which is past the peak for an NHL forward and this already bad contract has six more years on it.
3.) You don't give up a 1st and a solid prospect for a bad contract, not even with two 3rds coming back.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worldwidesensei</b></div><div>Umm. The Stanley Cup. It's why players play the game.</div></div>
He's a 60-point player who is weak defensively. Being in the playoffs isn't going to change that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenkins</b></div><div><strong>Hertl</strong> will likely return to form on a better line.</div></div>
Why? He will be further down the depth chart on a team with better options. He's been injured three times this season. He's 30 and his contract lasts another six years. He has no reason to put his body as risk for a paycheck.
Granted, Vegas has under $70 million on the ice against the Canucks in their previous game, so they needed bodies, but I don't see how this is an amazing deal for the Sharks.

(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>This is a Fair Deal that SJS win in the long-run. VEG gets a decent player with term but he’s 30, so likely only has a couple decent season left in him whereas SJS get a 1st + Top Prospect, which may become a Star and they open up Cap Space to sign a Younger Player that fits their rebuild
Not a Fan of Grier as a Manager, but I don’t mind this one for the Sharks</div></div>
I agree. He's not worth $6.75 million now and he likely won't be getting better. A 1st and a good prospect for a bad deal and two thirds seems really good.

(MIN/TOR) - Dewar for Ovchinnikov, 2026 4th (TOR)
That 4th could become better than Dewar, or they might never play an NHL game. Even if they play in the NHL, that likely won't happen till 2030.
It is unlikely Dmitry Ovchinnikov will play in the NHL as anything more than an injury call up.
Dewar is depth, at best, so call it a fair trade.

Give up a 1st and a prospect for a bad contract and two thirds doesn't seem good.
HE'S ALREADY 30!!!

I was about to say the same thing. If the condition is hard to meet OR makes the draft pick worse, then the Rangers won. It if is a 2nd in disguise, then the BJs won. If it is a late 3rd, then it is a fair deal.
